Overview
KEYAKI WALK Maebashi (けやきウォーク前橋) is a mall-type shopping center located in Bunkyo-cho, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. It is managed and operated by UNY Co., Ltd. and opened in March 2007 on the former site of the Daihatsu Motor Body (now Daihatsu Kyushu) main factory. It was the first store of UNY's mall-type shopping center brand 'WALK'. The name derives from the keyaki (zelkova) tree, which is the official tree of Maebashi City, and a row of keyaki trees lines the perimeter of the site. The center's concept is 'Mainichi tsunagaru, shiawase' (happiness connected every day). The core store is APITA Maebashi, directly operated by UNY, and the center houses approximately 150 specialty tenant shops. The specialty store mall is organized into ten segments, including Time-less Court, Lifestyle Garden, Family & Ladies Fashion Walk, Keyaki Alley (restaurants), Home Color 'S Sweets & Deli, Life Support areas, Entertainment Square, Ladies Fashion Street, Daily Life & Fashion Walk, and Festive Court (a food court with 700 indoor seats and 100 terrace seats). Major tenants include Kinokuniya bookstore, Muji, Matsumoto Kiyoshi, JINS, Right-on, ABC-MART, and a Lawson United Cinemas Maebashi multiplex with 9 screens and 2,056 seats. A separate building houses a K's Denki electronics store, which opened in May 2012. The center is accessible about an 8-minute walk from Maebashi Station on the JR Ryomo Line, and by direct bus routes from Maebashi Station and Chuo-Maebashi Station. By car, it is along Gunma Prefectural Route 2 (Maebashi Tatebayashi Line), about 5 km from the Maebashi Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway and about 7 km from the Komagata or Maebashi-Minami Interchanges on the Kita-Kanto Expressway. The facility offers extensive amenities including baby rooms, stroller and wheelchair lending, multipurpose toilets, EV charging stations, recycling stations, and a multipurpose hall. In April 2017, a satellite studio of Maebashi CITY FM was opened within the center. The center continues to operate as a regional shopping destination, with announcements such as a change in business hours from October 2025.
History
KEYAKI WALK Maebashi opened in March 2007 on the site of the former Daihatsu Motor Body (now Daihatsu Kyushu) main factory in Bunkyo-cho, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. It was the first store of UNY's mall-type shopping center brand 'WALK'. The name was chosen from the keyaki (zelkova) tree, the official tree of Maebashi City, and a row of keyaki trees was planted along the perimeter of the site. The center's concept is 'Mainichi tsunagaru, shiawase' (happiness connected every day). In 2008, there was a plan to expand the center by adding a three-story building with about 6,000 m² of sales area on the northeastern parking lot to attract large specialty stores, but this plan was shelved. In February 2011, a new plan was revealed to add a separate building of 6,300 m² on the southeastern parking lot. K's Denki was eventually invited to open there, and despite delays from the original schedule, it opened in May 2012. In April 2017, a satellite studio of Maebashi CITY FM was established within the center. The center has undergone tenant changes over the years, including a major tenant replacement between March 22 and April 19, 2013. As of recent years, it continues to operate with APITA Maebashi as the core store and approximately 150 specialty shops, serving the local community with shopping, dining, and entertainment facilities.
