Overview

Kerr's Farm Brewed Ales is a family-owned brewery founded in 2022 with the aim of fusing traditional beer styles with modern ingredients and a rigorous scientific approach. It is located on Rosemains Farm, a working arable farm on Preston Hall Estate in Midlothian, Scotland, in the old Engine Room at Rosemains Steading. The brewery sources the bulk of its ingredients from UK providers, including traditional UK hop varieties and barley grown as close as Fife, and its brew system is 100% electric, with half of its energy generated by solar panels on a nearby grain shed supplemented with renewable energy from Rosemains Farm. James is the head brewer, and his parents Peter and Christine are also involved.

History

Kerr's Farm Brewed Ales is a family-owned brewery founded in 2022 with the aim of fusing traditional beer styles with modern ingredients and a rigorous scientific approach. To develop its recipes, it scours historical records of long-forgotten breweries for inspiration while seeking flavourful hops far and wide and high-quality barley varieties grown in the British Isles closer to home. The brewery is located on Rosemains Farm, a working arable farm on Preston Hall Estate, in the old Engine Room at Rosemains Steading, the original farm buildings which now house a community of businesses. The location was chosen in large part because the farm is run with the same consideration for working in harmony with the natural environment as the brewery strives towards. The bulk of its ingredients are sourced from UK providers, including traditional UK hop varieties and barley grown as close as Fife. The brew system and infrastructure are designed with sustainability in mind: the brewery is 100% electric, with half of its energy generated by solar panels recently installed on the nearby grain shed, supplemented with renewable energy supplied by Rosemains Farm. James is the head brewer, and his parents Peter and Christine are also involved.
