History
KCON Co., Ltd. traces its origins to October 1, 1935, when Shikajiro Arakawa founded Keihan Concrete Industrial Works (京阪コンクリート工業所) in Kyoto, concurrently engaging in the construction business. In 1947, the business was incorporated as Keihan Cement Industrial Co., Ltd. (京阪セメント工業株式会社) and established an Osaka sales office. The company was renamed Keihan Concrete Industrial Co., Ltd. (京阪コンクリート工業株式会社) in 1951. During the post-war period of infrastructure development, KCON expanded its manufacturing footprint: a Shiga factory and sales office were established in 1956, followed by a Kyoto factory in 1959, and a Mie factory, Mie sales office, and Kyoto sales office in 1964. In 1966, the Kyoto factory received JIS certification for manhole side blocks, and in 1967, the Mie factory received JIS certification for road concrete products. The 1970s saw further expansion with the establishment of a Sanyo factory and sales office in 1970, and the appointment of Umetaro Hasegawa as president in 1971 following founder Shikajiro Arakawa. In 1973, the company obtained construction business licenses from the Minister of Construction for specific and general construction at its headquarters, Shiga, and Mie sales offices. A Tokyo sales office was opened in 1975, and a Kyushu sales office in 1976. The 1980s brought additional JIS certifications and new products: the Shiga factory received JIS for sewer manhole side blocks in 1980, and New Wallcon received宅造法 approval in 1984. In 1985, the company obtained specific permission for building construction at its headquarters, and in 1987 registered a first-class architect office. A Shikoku sales office was established in 1988. In 1992, Hitoshi Arakawa became president, and Umetaro Hasegawa became the first chairman. The company continued to expand its sales network in the 1990s with Kobe, Ehime, and North Kanto sales offices. In 1995, the company changed its name to KCON Co., Ltd. (ケイコン株式会社) and established a Kobe sales office; its Slag Stone 100 product received Eco Mark certification. In 1996, a Kanto West branch was established, and Marine Fire Water Tank received type approval from the Japan Fire Equipment Safety Center. In 1997, a development sales office was established. The company achieved ISO 9001 certification for its product division and Kyoto factory in 1999, followed by the Sanyo and Mie factories in 2000. In 2005, an HPC division was established. In 2006, the headquarters obtained KES environmental management system certification. In 2008, the product division's Kyoto, Mie, and Sanyo factories received new JIS registration. In 2009, the North Kanto sales office obtained Gunma Prefecture Environmental GS certification. In 2010, Takashi Arakawa became president. The 2010s saw the establishment of a Chubu branch, Wakayama sales office, and special sales department in 2011; a Nara sales office and Sendai sales office in 2013, along with ISO 9001 and 14001 certification for the construction division; a Kyushu branch and Okinawa sales office in 2014; and a Hiroshima sales office in 2018. In 2020, the new headquarters building and new Mie factory were completed. Today, KCON continues to provide precast concrete products and construction services, supporting Japanese infrastructure with innovative technology.
