Overview

Karl Dietz Verlag Berlin is a publishing house that publishes the Marx-Engels-Werke (MEW), the most cited study edition of the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It also publishes the collected works of Rosa Luxemburg and titles on the history of communism and left socialism.

History

The Karl Dietz Verlag Berlin was founded after the Second World War, partly in the tradition of its social democratic predecessor. It was named Dietz Verlag in 1946 and soon became the central publishing house of the SED leadership. Until about 1948, books in a social democratic spirit were still published; later the program was dominated by the view of the respective 'ruling line' of the SED.
