History

Kanal-S Television Company began broadcasting on 29 December 2008 from Shaki, covering the northwestern region of Azerbaijan. It was the first regional television in the country to broadcast 24 hours a day. The channel initially transmitted on channels 51, 54, and 32 from three different districts, reaching over 70% of the country's territory, and was also available worldwide via the internet. It was equipped with modern technical equipment and digital systems, including high-quality studio cameras and the latest editing software. The channel operated with seven departments: News, Arts and Creative, Programming, Technical, Economic and Transport, Finance and Personnel, and Security. It employed 135 people and collaborated with famous personalities such as Həmidə Ömərova, Nadir Bədəlov, Anar Ağakişiyev, and Yusif Cəfərov. Its weekly broadcast volume was 168 hours, with 75% of programming produced in-house, 5% from other Azerbaijani sources, and 20% from foreign productions. The company's motto was "Sizə hamıdan yaxınıq" (We are closer to you than anyone), with a priority on promptness and objectivity. On 19 September 2016, the channel was rebranded as ARB Şəki as part of the ARB Media Qrup's unification of its regional channels. On 8 January 2022, it reverted to the name Kanal-S. From 28 January 2022, it began broadcasting on the Azerspace-1 satellite and on KATV1 cable television. From 14 February 2022, it introduced a more colorful programming lineup, with the main goal of promoting the regions, districts, and cities of Azerbaijan, including tourist potential, agriculture, and other infrastructure. Currently, the channel employs 121 people and produces 14 programs. In March 2025, a controversial statement by host Nigar Fərhad on the program "Sözün bitdiyi an" led the Audiovisual Council to suspend the channel's broadcasts for 24 hours on 4–5 April 2025 for violating media law on non-discrimination.
