Kalceks

Kalceks is a rapidly growing and reliable European pharmaceutical company with more than 100 years of history in providing sterile dosage forms. Its product portfolio includes strictly accounted medications intended mainly for the hospital segment in resuscitation, CNS, and cardiovascular therapy. The company was founded in 1920 when Jānis Mednis and Vilis Skaburskis established a pharmaceutical laboratory in Riga. In 1941, production of the anti-influenza remedy Calcex began, from which AS Kalceks derived its name. In 1992, Kalceks became an independent pharmaceutical company specializing in parenteral dosage forms. In 2004, joining the AS Grindeks concern, active exploration of export markets was started. In 2017, AS Kalceks renewed its brand, and in 2020 it celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Kalceks was founded in 1920 when Jānis Mednis and Vilis Skaburskis established a pharmaceutical laboratory in Riga at Bruņinieku iela 85. In 1921, Provizors Sigismunds Fronckevičs became a co-owner and developed the chemical laboratory direction. In 1927, the company transformed from a small laboratory into a modern factory 'Medfro' with several departments and modernized laboratories. In 1929, Kalceks patented a 'device for opening tin cans'. In 1932, 'Medfro' produced medicinal products in ampoules, being the only such company in Latvia and the largest in the Baltic states. In 1941, production of the anti-influenza remedy Calcex began, from which AS Kalceks derived its name. Also in 1941, the chemical-pharmaceutical factory 'Medfro' was merged with the chemical-pharmaceutical company 'Farmazāns', creating the chemical-pharmaceutical factory 'Farmazāns'. In 1965, 'Farmazāns' products were exported to Europe, Japan, Great Britain and other countries. In 1992, Kalceks became an independent pharmaceutical company specializing in parenteral dosage forms, starting to specialize in injection solutions. In 2004, joining the AS Grindeks concern, active exploration of export markets was started. In 2017, AS Kalceks renewed its brand. In 2020, Kalceks celebrated its 100th anniversary.
