Founded in 1919 as a mechanical engineering workshop, the company today produces at three production sites in Germany and employs around 8,800 people worldwide. Its product and service range includes screw compressors, piston compressors, portable construction compressors, compressed air management systems, vacuum pumps, blowers, filters, dryers, compressed air tools and accessories, as well as consulting and planning, compressed air demand analyses, contracting and service.
History
KAESER was founded on 27 June 1919 in Coburg by Carl Kaeser senior as a mechanical engineering workshop. Its initial business activities comprised the production of spare parts for motor vehicles and engines, in particular gears, and later also the construction of special machines for the glass industry. The company reached a workforce of 150 employees within a few years. In 1948 the company produced its first piston compressor; as a consequence of Germany's division after the Second World War, KAESER lost a large part of its previous market in Thuringia and was forced to orient itself toward new markets in southern and western Germany. The know-how in engine construction and the great post-war demand for compressors led to the decision to include these machines in the product range, and the first KAESER-developed piston compressor left the production plant in 1948; in the following years a complete piston compressor program up to 60 kW was created. In 1973 KAESER developed its first screw compressor, with Carl Kaeser junior, son of the company founder, taking the initiative for this next strategic step.
