KA-MATRIX – Association for Social Development

KA-MATRIX – udruga za društveni razvoj (KA-MATRIX – Association for Social Development) is a Croatian non-governmental organization headquartered in Karlovac. It operates as a civil-society and cultural platform, producing and hosting public programmes that combine contemporary art, media, technology and community engagement. Its public identity is closely tied to the Infoshop Karlovac and to collaborations with galleries, independent cultural organizations and artists across Croatia. The association's programme activity, as documented on its official website, includes multi-day workshops, multimedia exhibitions, sound-art research and open-air group exhibitions. Examples include the workshop "Nova analogna fotografija" (New Analog Photography) held at Infoshop Karlovac in October 2026 in cooperation with Karlovac photographer and videographer Pavle Kocanjer; the multimedia exhibition FLAG11x2026 – Free Art Glitch: Fubar ARHIVA [2k26] at gallery ZILIK in Karlovac, opened in September 2026 in cooperation with the Zagreb organization Format C; the sound workshop "Skrivene frekvencije: rezonirati s gradom" (Hidden Frequencies: Resonating with the City) led by Iva Galović in September 2026 in Rijeka with Filmaktiv; the group exhibition "Likovna turneja – gostovanje u Karlovcu" at Galerija ZILIK in June 2026; and the fourth "Izložba na štriku" (Exhibition on a String) on the Promenada in Karlovac in July 2026. Several of these activities are framed under the programme "Nova kultura _ Hibridni grad 026". KA-MATRIX functions as a producer, co-organizer and host rather than as a commercial manufacturer or retailer. Its work is characteristic of the independent cultural sector in Croatia: project-based, partnership-driven and often staged in non-institutional spaces such as infoshops, galleries and public streets. The organization's name is sometimes rendered simply as KA-MATRIX, with "KA" evoking Karlovac. Because KA-MATRIX is a non-governmental organization rather than a commercial brand, its "offerings" are cultural and educational programmes rather than products. Its audience is primarily local residents of Karlovac and Rijeka, artists, photographers, sound practitioners and participants in civil-society initiatives. The association maintains an official website at ka-matrix.hr, which serves as its main public information channel.

KA-MATRIX – udruga za društveni razvoj is a Croatian non-governmental organization based in Karlovac. It is registered as a civil-society association and is described in public data as a non-governmental organization. Its name combines "KA" (commonly associated with Karlovac) with "MATRIX", and its full legal name identifies it as an association for social development. The organization's documented public activity is cultural and educational. It produces and co-organizes workshops, exhibitions and public programmes, frequently in partnership with other Croatian independent cultural actors and in non-institutional venues. Its official website presents a rolling programme of events, several of which fall under the umbrella "Nova kultura _ Hibridni grad 026". Among the activities recorded on its website are a multi-day workshop on new analog photography ("Nova analogna fotografija") held at Infoshop Karlovac in October 2026 in cooperation with Karlovac photographer and videographer Pavle Kocanjer; the multimedia exhibition FLAG11x2026 – Free Art Glitch: Fubar ARHIVA [2k26] at gallery ZILIK in Karlovac, opened in September 2026 in cooperation with the Zagreb organization Format C; the sound workshop "Skrivene frekvencije: rezonirati s gradom" led by Iva Galović, held in September 2026 in Rijeka with Filmaktiv; the group exhibition "Likovna turneja – gostovanje u Karlovcu" at Galerija ZILIK in June 2026; and the fourth "Izložba na štriku" on the Promenada in Karlovac in July 2026. These activities illustrate the association's operating model: project-based cultural production, cross-sector partnerships, use of public and alternative spaces, and a focus on contemporary art, photography, sound and media. The organization's public communication is conducted primarily through its website, ka-matrix.hr, and through the venues and partner organizations with which it collaborates. As a non-governmental cultural association rather than a commercial enterprise, KA-MATRIX does not report commercial ownership, shareholding or product lines. Its history is best understood through its programme record and partnerships rather than through corporate milestones.
