Overview
KŽC Doprava is a Czech railway transport company founded in 2006, growing out of the Klub železničních cestovatelů (KŽC, 'Railway Travellers' Club') established in 1985. The company operates seasonal, tourist-oriented rail services on behalf of public transport authorities, typically using historic rolling stock from the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). It also provides regular weekday services on selected Esko lines. The company has taken over several railway lines that had been closed by infrastructure operators and runs scheduled traffic on them. In 2008 it acquired the Česká Kamenice–Kamenický Šenov line. Its tourist trains include the Lužický motoráček, Podřipský motoráček and Podkrušnohorský motoráček, some of which run in the border region with Germany. Regular weekday service is offered on Esko line S 34 from Praha Masarykovo nádraží to Čakovice using new 813.2 railcars, and supplementary morning-peak service on line S 43 between Kralupy nad Vltavou and Neratovice. The club also organises railway-related events and rents out vehicles with crew for special occasions, as well as locomotives for construction trains. Its scheduled excursion services in 2023 included the Pražský motoráček, Posázavský motoráček, Rakovnický rychlík, Kokořínský rychlík, Lužickohorský rychlík, Podřipský motoráček, Kamenický motoráček, Podkrušnohorský motoráček and Mochovský motoráček. KŽC Doprava is part of the Skupina KŽC group and is based in the Czech Republic. It remains active, with ongoing news and service updates published on its official website.
History
KŽC Doprava was founded in 2006, building on the Klub železničních cestovatelů (KŽC, 'Railway Travellers' Club') that had been established in 1985. The Czech word 'doprava' in the company name means transport. Over time, the association took over many railway lines that had been closed by railway infrastructure operators and began running scheduled rail traffic on them. In 2008, the company acquired the Česká Kamenice–Kamenický Šenov railway line. In the border region with Germany, the Lužický motoráček operates on the section from Prague via Česká Lípa and Jedlová, using the Mikulášovice–Panský–Rumburk line; the Podřipský motoráček runs on the section from Roudnice nad Labem to Libochovice, using the Libochovice–Vraňany line; and the Podkrušnohorský motoráček runs on the section from Děčín hlavní nádraží to Telnice. Regular weekday service is offered on Esko line S 34 from Praha Masarykovo nádraží to Čakovice, using new 813.2 railcars. In addition, regular supplementary service is operated on line S 43 during the morning peak between Kralupy nad Vltavou and Neratovice. The association regularly organises railway-related events. For special occasions, vehicles with appropriate train crew are rented out on order, and locomotives are also made available for construction trains. In 2023, the following regular excursion services were planned, mostly using historic vehicles: Pražský motoráček, Posázavský motoráček, Rakovnický rychlík, Kokořínský rychlík, Lužickohorský rychlík, Podřipský motoráček, Kamenický motoráček, Podkrušnohorský motoráček and Mochovský motoráček.
