History
The history of the Champignon-Hofmeister Group began more than 100 years ago with an idea by cheesemakers Julius Hirschle and cheese merchant Leopold Immler. From a small dairy it developed over multiple generations into today's Champignon-Hofmeister Group, with individual dairies coming together to form the global group of companies. The group has stayed true to its 100-year-old roots and describes itself as a family business anchored in the region with artisanal roots. Today it produces at four facilities in Bavaria and Saxony, and its cheeses are exported from four German locations to around 55 countries worldwide. The Lauben-based (Upper Allgäu) group has made a name for itself as a leading producer of soft speciality cheese and milk as well as dairy derivatives, with brands such as CHAMPIGNON, ROUGETTE, CAMBOZOLA, St. Mang and ALPAVIT.
