History

Kärnfilm was founded in 2016 as an independent production company in collaboration between producers Martina Stöhr, Petra Jönsson and Daniel Sachs. The company was established with the aim of producing high-end film and TV series for both the Swedish and global market. Its core idea is to create contemporary quality feature content that in some way comments on or reflects the world around us, with strong and relevant stories, great talent and uncompromised quality regardless of format. Martina Stöhr brought over thirty years of industry experience to the venture, having produced movies, TV series and commercials in collaborations with directors such as Amir Chamdin, Colin Nutley and Jonas Åkerlund. Between 2006 and 2016 she ran the production company Chamdin & Stöhr, whose clients included H&M, and produced features such as God Willing, Cornelis and Stockholm Stories. She has also written original screenplays for the award-winning features Misa Mi and God Willing. Petra Jönsson, with over twenty years in the film industry, had been involved in a vast number of large-scale productions before co-founding Kärnfilm. Since its founding, Kärnfilm has built a diverse slate of feature films and series. Early productions include Border (2018), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Un Certain Regard award, and STHLM Requiem (2018). The company continued with Everything I Don't Remember (2019), The Mother (2020), Hamilton (2020), I'm in the Band (2021), The Foster Family (2022), Lea (2022), Hostage (2023), Estonia (2023) and Pressure Point (2024). The Dialogue Police (2024) is in production. These projects have been made for Swedish and international broadcasters and streaming platforms, cementing Kärnfilm's reputation as a producer of high-quality Nordic drama.
