Engine emissions and fuel-economy testing falsification
Hino and Toyota disclosed the findings of an investigation into falsified emissions and fuel-economy test data for certain engines. The investigation indicated that problematic practices extended back at least to 2003. Consequences included regulatory scrutiny, shipment suspensions, recalls, customer impact, reputational damage, and Hino’s exclusion from the Toyota–Isuzu commercial-vehicle partnership.
