Overview

GoDigital Media Group is a privately held American media and entertainment conglomerate headquartered in Los Angeles. Founded in 2006 by Jason Peterson, the company began by licensing music rights and subsequently developed a broader portfolio spanning music distribution, film and video distribution, digital rights management, creator services, entertainment networks, software, fitness, and consumer retail. Its central business model is based on acquiring, licensing, administering, distributing, and monetizing intellectual property across digital platforms. The group expanded beyond its original music-rights focus through a series of operating businesses and acquisitions. In 2008 it established a movie-distribution subsidiary, also called GoDigital, and in 2010 it created ContentBridge, a software business designed to support the movement, tracking, localization, and delivery of multimedia content. Its video activities grew in 2012 through the acquisition of Might Entertainment, which added approximately 700 films to the group's licensing catalog. The same year, the music-distribution operation was renamed Cinq Music. Cinq later developed into a combined distributor, label, creator-services provider, and rights-management company, initially with particular strength in Latin and independent music. GoDigital's portfolio has included businesses that serve different points in the digital-content value chain. AdShare identifies and monetizes unauthorized uses of copyrighted music and other audio in online videos. Sound Royalties provides advances to artists secured against future royalty income. ContentBridge supplies technology for content delivery and supply-chain management. The group's entertainment networks have included Latido Music, an ad-supported Latin music channel, and NGLmitú, a digital media business oriented toward Latino audiences through lifestyle, food, documentary, and branded-content programming. YogaWorks broadened the portfolio into digital fitness and subscription video services. Music has remained one of the group's most visible areas. Cinq Music built a catalog and distribution operation serving Latin and independent artists, while also moving into wider genres. The company reported reaching tens of millions of monthly listeners during the late 2010s. Its projects and rights activity have included work associated with the global success of “Despacito,” distribution of a Janet Jackson album, and acquisitions involving recorded-music rights connected with T.I., Sean Kingston, and Jason Derulo. In 2022, GoDigital announced a further major capital commitment to Cinq to support catalog and licensing expansion. The group also expanded into physical commerce. In 2022, GoDigital acquired Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob's Stores from Frasers Group. These transactions brought established outdoor and apparel retail brands into a company historically centered on intellectual property, digital content, and related services. GoDigital subsequently operated both digital media assets and consumer-facing commerce businesses under a broader multi-industry structure. During the COVID-19 pandemic, GoDigital closed its Los Angeles headquarters and moved to a remote-work model. It also continued an acquisition-led strategy, purchasing or investing in multiple businesses between 2020 and 2023. In 2021, GoDigital and MEP Capital Management acquired YogaWorks through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction and repositioned the business as an online subscription service after the pandemic had forced the closure of its physical studios. In 2023, YogaWorks added a fitness program designed for people affected by breast cancer in partnership with Samantha Harris. GoDigital also expressed interest in acquiring Vice during Vice's bankruptcy process, although Fortress Investment Group ultimately won the transaction. The group remains best understood as a diversified rights-management and digital-media platform with additional exposure to fitness and retail.

History

GoDigital Media Group was established in 2006 by Jason Peterson in Los Angeles. Its initial business was the licensing and administration of music rights. Rather than remaining a conventional record company, the group built a rights-centered model intended to capture value from the use of recordings and other content across digital platforms. In 2008, GoDigital entered film distribution by creating a subsidiary under the GoDigital name. In 2010, it launched ContentBridge, a software company focused on multimedia supply-chain processes, including delivery, usage tracking, and international localization. These additions gave the group both a content-rights business and technology intended to support the distribution of that content. The video operation expanded in January 2012 through the acquisition of Might Entertainment, a video-on-demand company whose catalog contributed roughly 700 movie titles to GoDigital's licensing inventory. That year, the music-distribution division was renamed Cinq Music. Cinq gradually broadened its role into music-label operations, artist and creator services, and rights management. Also in 2012, Preferred Ventures purchased a majority interest in the GoDigital subsidiary for an undisclosed amount. In January 2014, Preferred Ventures merged GoDigital with Variance Films, creating Amplify as a film-distribution business. GoDigital's film interests continued to develop when the subsidiary acquired independent-film distributor Distribber in 2015. Digital video and music-network activities became another important part of the group. In 2016, AdShare acquired Primo Media, a YouTube-channel network associated with Latin music and talent marketing. In 2017, GoDigital launched Latido Music, an advertising-supported Latin music television and multimedia channel. The company's business at this stage was strongly associated with Latin music, and it reported approximately 50 million monthly listeners by 2018, with a large share located in Latin American countries. GoDigital invested in Cinq Music to help it move into additional genres. Cinq's distribution of a Janet Jackson album in 2018 represented a notable project outside the company's earlier concentration. It also bought rights in recordings associated with T.I. from Warner Music Group. Further investment in 2019 supported the acquisition of the Beluga Heights label, including rights connected with Sean Kingston and Jason Derulo. GoDigital continued to consolidate and diversify its Latin-focused media activities. In February 2020, Latido Music acquired Mitú, a competing business producing and distributing content for Latino audiences. Mitú was later combined with NGL Collective, resulting in the NGLmitú operation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, GoDigital closed its Los Angeles headquarters and shifted to remote work. From 2020 through 2023, the group acquired eight businesses, reinforcing its acquisition-led approach. One of the most significant later transactions was the 2021 acquisition of YogaWorks with MEP Capital Management. YogaWorks had entered Chapter 11 after the pandemic forced the closure of its physical yoga studios. GoDigital and its partner acquired the business in a bankruptcy auction and converted it into an online subscription service. In 2023, YogaWorks expanded its programming with a fitness offering intended for people affected by breast cancer, developed with Samantha Harris. GoDigital also expanded its financial and rights-management capabilities. Sound Royalties, acquired during the 2020–2023 period, provides advances to artists in return for a share of future music royalties. In 2022, GoDigital made another substantial investment in Cinq Music, supporting further licensing and catalog activity. The group simultaneously moved into physical retail by acquiring Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob's Stores from Frasers Group. The transaction was strategically significant because it added established storefront-based outdoor and apparel businesses to a portfolio historically dominated by digital rights, media, and services. In 2023, GoDigital indicated that it would bid for Vice while the digital-media company was in bankruptcy. Fortress Investment Group ultimately submitted the winning offer, so Vice did not become part of GoDigital. By the latest period described in the available reference material, GoDigital Media Group remained a diversified private group organized around intellectual-property monetization, with businesses in music, video, digital networks, creator finance, content technology, online fitness, and commerce.
