Overview
GEALAN Fenster-Systeme is a German manufacturer and system provider specializing in PVC profiles for windows and doors. The company develops, manufactures and distributes its profiles in-house. These profiles are used as the basis for window systems, doors and modern sliding solutions, with the company describing its offer in terms of design, robustness, security and thermal insulation. GEALAN also makes the extrusion tools used in profile production at its own toolmaking operation. The company’s roots extend to a fur-processing business founded by Adam Fickenscher in 1921. In 1956, his son Theo Fickenscher began plastics processing as a new business line; products including water hoses, handrails and clotheslines were sold under the GEALAN brand. The company began making window profiles in 1968, and in 1979 the name GEALAN became the company name with the establishment of Gealan Werk Fickenscher GmbH. A later development was acrylcolor, a weather- and colour-resistant profile produced using co-extrusion, manufactured from 1980. GEALAN serves a business-to-business network that includes window manufacturers, distributors and installation companies, as well as architects and planners. Alongside its profile systems, it offers partner support, technical and architectural advice, planning tools, BIM data, training, marketing materials and assistance connecting dealers with potential customers. Its products and services are intended for use across European markets; the company also describes itself as an international employer and reports worldwide operations. Since 2014 GEALAN has been part of VEKA AG, a family-run company headquartered in Sendenhorst, Westphalia. GEALAN identifies Oberkotzau, near Hof (Saale), as its headquarters. Its manufacturing footprint includes Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, alongside sales companies in other European countries. The company reported more than 1,700 employees worldwide and approximately EUR 320 million in annual revenue for 2025. Its present-day proposition combines PVC profile systems with engineering, planning and commercial services for partners in the window and door sector.
History
The roots of GEALAN’s corporate group reach back to 1921, when Adam Fickenscher founded a fur-processing business in Schlegel near Hof. The business moved to Oberkotzau in 1947 with 200 employees. In 1956, Adam Fickenscher’s son Theo established plastics processing as a new line of business. Products such as water hoses, handrails and clotheslines were sold under the GEALAN brand. The business entered the window sector in 1968, when it began producing window profiles and subsequently developed them over the following decade. In 1979, the formation of Gealan Werk Fickenscher GmbH made GEALAN the company name as well as the product name. In 1980 the company manufactured acrylcolor, a weather- and colour-resistant window profile made using co-extrusion. The original fur-processing and finishing operation was discontinued in 1988. As demand grew, Gealan Tanna Fenster-Systeme GmbH was established in Tanna, Thuringia, in 1992. A technical training centre began operating in Döhlau in 1994. GEALAN expanded its European presence during the 1990s and 2000s. Subsidiaries in Romania and Poland were registered in 1997, and a new plant was established in Lithuania that year. Gealan Dienstleistung GmbH began operating at Oberkotzau in 1999. A logistics centre opened in Tanna in 2001 and was expanded in 2004. That same year, Gealan Polska began extruding window profiles to serve its regional market. The company also established a Croatian trading company and a Moscow representative office in 2004, followed by a French trading subsidiary in 2005. In 2007, production, administration and logistics in Poland were expanded as the existing operation reached capacity; GEALAN also established OOO Gealan Fenster-Profile in Moscow to develop the Russian market. Since 2014, GEALAN has been part of the family-run VEKA AG, headquartered in Sendenhorst, Westphalia. In 2018, the technical training centre in Döhlau was closed and relocated to Oberkotzau, where the company invested four million euros. The German-language company history describes around 150 specialists developing new window systems at the Oberkotzau centre. GEALAN’s current manufacturing locations include Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, with sales companies in other European countries. The company’s current business spans PVC profiles for windows and doors, sliding solutions, manufacturing tools and partner-facing technical, planning and training services. GEALAN reported more than 1,700 employees worldwide and approximately EUR 320 million in annual revenue for 2025.
