History
Fincantieri Marine Group is the U.S. subsidiary of the world-renowned shipbuilder Fincantieri, which the group describes as having nearly two and a half centuries of experience and having built more than 7,000 vessels. The group is comprised of three Great Lakes shipyards. Fincantieri Marinette Marine was founded in 1942 in Marinette, Wisconsin, to meet America's growing demand for naval construction, and has since built more than 1,500 vessels. Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding specializes in the construction, repair, and conversion of Coast Guard and commercial vessels including ATBs and OSVs, and built two of the largest LNG bunker barges ever built in the United States. Fincantieri ACE Marine is an aluminum construction facility where the U.S. Coast Guard's medium-sized Response Boats were built. Since 2016, Fincantieri has invested more than half a billion dollars into a capital expansion program for its U.S. shipyards, including additional computer-aided ship manufacturing equipment, new climate-controlled facilities, and a U.S. Navy-certified floating dry-dock. Fincantieri's acquisition of VARD Marine increased the group's portfolio of proven ship designs and its ability to specialize in the offshore supply and support markets.
