History
Faygo's history dates to 1907, when Russian immigrant bakers Ben and Perry Feigenson began transforming their frosting flavors into the Faygo pop. In 1912 the Feigenson brothers started delivering their pop door-to-door in a brand-new GMC truck, replacing their horse-drawn wagon. In 1921 the Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works shortened its name to Faygo. Faygo beer was added to the roster for a very brief period in 1934. In the 1940s the brand added new flavors, new bottles, the now famous "shield" logo, and a refined Root Beer formula. In 1956 mascots Black Bart and the Faygo Kid hit the airwaves. During the 1960s Diet Faygo pop joined the scene, Faygo launched in cans, Faygo Strawberry officially became Redpop, and Faygo went nationwide in the late 1960s. In 1973 the Faygo "Boat Song" was remembered, and in the 1970s the brand released an innovative 2-quart bottle and vending machines dispensing 16-oz. drinks. In 1998 Faygo started selling in its online store. In the 2000s Candy Apple, Gold, and Cotton Candy arrived. Faygo turned 100 in 2007. In 2009 Faygo Root Beer was named one of the best root beers in America by Bon Appétit magazine. The Ohana line was added in 2011. In 2017 the '90s flavor Arctic Sun made its comeback, and to celebrate the 110th birthday a giant Faygo birthday cake float was baked for the America's Thanksgiving Parade.
