EUROTAI

EUROTAI emerged from a 1997 cooperation agreement between Turkish Aerospace Industries and Eurocopter. The agreement was designed to combine Eurocopter's Cougar helicopter platform and technical framework with TAI's Turkish manufacturing and assembly capabilities. It formed part of Turkey's effort to obtain military helicopters while also developing domestic aerospace production capacity. The resulting PHENIX 2 contract covered 30 Cougar helicopters. Ten aircraft were designated for the Turkish Land Forces, and 20 were intended for Turkish Air Force search-and-rescue and combat search-and-rescue duties. The reported contract value was FF4.45 billion, approximately US$450 million when the agreement was signed in February 1997.
