Disana was founded in 1982. The company started in the garage of the parents' house, where the parents produced the first disana children's textiles on mechanical knitting machines with the help of some ladies from the neighborhood. The brand name is composed of the initials of the parents, Dieter and Imma Sautter, and the word 'Naturtextil'. Today, the siblings Aiga and Elmar Sautter manage the company, which they took over from their parents. The company is located in the municipality of Lichtenstein, south of Stuttgart, on the Swabian Alb, with administration and a disana store at one site and production in a neighboring village on an old spinning mill premises.
