Overview

CTC Clinical Trial Consultants AB is a Swedish contract research organisation (CRO) headquartered in Uppsala. Founded in 2011, the company describes its mission as translating science into treatment, working "with patients for patients" and rethinking clinical trials. It positions itself as a full-service CRO distinguished by an in-house Site Network of six state-of-the-art research clinics across Sweden, including a first-in-human (FIH) unit at Uppsala University Hospital, plus an additional clinic in Groningen, the Netherlands, opened in 2024 and operated by sister company CTC Netherlands BV. CTC provides full-service management and conduct of Phase 0, first-in-human (FIH), Phase I and Phase II studies, as well as medical device investigations. Its site network supports clinical trials across all phases of development, including Phase III–IV multicentre studies. The company's service portfolio is built on in-house expertise in Project Management, Clinical Monitoring, Medical Writing, DMPK & Clinical Pharmacology, Biometrics, and pre- and post-market Pharmacovigilance. It markets a streamlined, cost-effective and optimised solution customised for each trial, with a flexible and innovative mindset. According to its own figures, CTC has participated in over 600 industry-sponsored clinical trials on behalf of small start-ups as well as large international pharmaceutical companies and CROs. Its track record includes FIH, PET/MR, early precision QT (EPQT), drug-drug and food interaction, pharmaco-EEG, biosimilar, bioequivalence and bioavailability studies, new drug delivery systems, medical device investigations and Phase II studies. The site network reports 60+ beds, 4,000+ in-patient stays, 10,000+ out-patient visits, 500+ clinical trials, 6–8 FIH trials annually and 500,000+ blood samples annually. Since 2015 CTC has been owned by Center for Translational Research Sweden AB (CTR). CTR comprises seven subsidiaries besides CTC — RegSmart Life Science AB, Lablytica Life Science AB, Toxicology Knowledge Team Sweden AB (TKT), MetaSafe AB, QAlliance AB and Zelmic AB — which together form a basis for translational research. More than 140 co-workers constitute the backbone of the company, supplemented by a large pool of hourly based clinical research nurses and clinical research physicians with long experience of clinical trials. The company is privately held and is not listed on a stock exchange.

History

CTC Clinical Trial Consultants AB was founded in 2011 in Sweden. From its base in Uppsala, the company grew into a full-service contract research organisation (CRO) serving small start-ups as well as large international pharmaceutical companies and CROs. Since its founding it has participated in over 600 industry-sponsored clinical trials, according to the company. A defining feature of CTC's development has been the build-out of an in-house Site Network. The network now consists of six state-of-the-art research clinics across Sweden, including a first-in-human (FIH) unit at Uppsala University Hospital. This in-house capacity allows CTC to conduct Phase 0, FIH, Phase I and Phase II studies as well as medical device investigations, and to support trials in all phases of development, including international multicentre Phase III–IV studies. In 2015 CTC was acquired by Center for Translational Research Sweden AB (CTR). Under CTR, CTC sits alongside seven sister companies — RegSmart Life Science AB, Lablytica Life Science AB, Toxicology Knowledge Team Sweden AB (TKT), MetaSafe AB, QAlliance AB and Zelmic AB — which together form a basis for translational research. The group structure gives CTC access to complementary expertise in regulatory affairs, bioanalysis, toxicology, safety and quality. In 2024 CTC expanded internationally with the opening of a research clinic in Groningen, the Netherlands, operated by sister company CTC Netherlands BV. The company reports more than 140 co-workers, supplemented by a large pool of hourly based clinical research nurses and clinical research physicians with long experience of clinical trials. Its site network reports 60+ beds, 4,000+ in-patient stays, 10,000+ out-patient visits, 500+ clinical trials, 6–8 FIH trials annually and 500,000+ blood samples annually. CTC's service portfolio is built on in-house expertise in Project Management, Clinical Monitoring, Medical Writing, DMPK & Clinical Pharmacology, Biometrics, and pre- and post-market Pharmacovigilance. Its track record includes FIH, PET/MR, early precision QT (EPQT), drug-drug and food interaction, pharmaco-EEG, biosimilar, bioequivalence and bioavailability studies, new drug delivery systems, medical device investigations and Phase II studies. The company describes its mission as translating science into treatment, working "with patients for patients" and rethinking clinical trials.
