Overview

Crispin Valve is a family-owned American valve manufacturer that began in 1905 with an air valve designed by founder Clarence Crispin. The company manufactures more than 35 valve designs in sizes from ½" through 168", including air, check, butterfly, plug and gate valve lines. Its products serve the municipal water industry as well as industrial, mining, chemical, energy and processing companies.

History

Crispin Valve began in 1905 with an air valve designed by company founder Clarence Crispin. After earning an engineering degree from Cornell University, Clarence returned to Berwick, PA, aiming to increase output at the family-owned Berwick Water Company. Early attempts to pump water through a wood stave pipe along the Susquehanna River failed because the pipe kept collapsing from an excessive vacuum as it drained. Clarence designed a valve that could release air from a water line while water was running through it and admit air when the line drained, without leaks or breaks in flow. He patented the design and founded Multiplex Manufacturing Company, known today as Crispin Valves. Less than five years later, Crispin Air Valves were installed on the Panama Canal at the request of Teddy Roosevelt’s Army Corps of Engineers. The company states that no other company in the world today has manufactured Air Valves longer than Crispin, and that it has added Check, Butterfly, Plug and Gate valve lines. It manufactures more than 35 valve designs in sizes from ½" through 168", and four generations after its founding remains family-owned and American made.

Products and positioning

The valve industry’s accessible, responsive and creative solution provider.

  • Air Valves

Crispin Air Release, Air & Vacuum and Universal Combination Valves meet or exceed ANSI/AWWA C512 Standards.

  • Sewage Air Valves

Available in standard and high-capacity models, Crispin offers sewage valves in Air & Vacuum, Pressure Air Release and Combination configurations that meet or exceed ANSI/AWWA C512 Standards.

  • Globe Check Valves

Mounted vertically or horizontally, these valves are designed to close before the pump stops, preventing flow reversal and eliminating water hammer and system surges. ANSI Class 150 & Class 300.

  • Rubber Flapper Check Valves

A versatile and cost-effective solution, Crispin’s Rubber Flapper Check Valve provides a smaller stroke then conventional swing check valves, reducing slamming while offering a strong and quick seal.

  • Swing Check Valves

The SWL provides an AWWA C-508-1 solution for check valve applications, including sewage and slurry, and is available in Lever/Wt, Lever/Spring, and Oil & Air Cushion configurations.

  • Tilting Disc Check Valves

The TD Series achieves full flow opening as the disc “tilts” in the flow of the media for an incredibly low opening stroke range, thus reducing water hammer, and opening and closing times…

  • K-Flo Butterfly Valves

Crispin’s K-Flo Butterfly Valves meet or exceed ANSI/AWWA C504 Standards.
