History
The roots of Credit Life date back to 1979, when RheinLand Versicherungs AG acquired a majority stake in Ontos Restschuld-Lebensversicherungs AG in Cologne. This marked the start of the distribution of residual debt insurance, the core business of today's Credit Life, within the RheinLand Group. In 2002, the portfolio was expanded to include risks such as unemployment, serious illness, and permanent disability. Also in 2002, the independent residual debt insurer Credit Life International N.V. was founded in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and the brand name Credit Life International was created. In 2006, the registered office and place of business were moved to Venlo, Netherlands. Since 2013, the German and international residual debt insurance business has been operated from Neuss again. In 2013, Credit Life AG bundled risk life and occupational disability supplementary insurances as well as the residual debt insurance business for optimal product design. Also in 2013, own branches were founded in the Netherlands to strengthen international sales.
