Overview

Craggy Range is a New Zealand wine estate founded in 1998 by Terry and Mary Peabody, who from 1993 sought to create a lasting legacy that could be passed down through generations. The estate is safeguarded by a 1,000-year family trust and is based at Giants Estate beneath Te Mata Peak in Hawke's Bay, where it operates a restaurant, culinary gardens, a Cellar Door and boutique accommodation. Its vineyards include the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay and Te Muna in Martinborough.

History

In 1993, Terry and Mary Peabody set out to create a lasting legacy: a wine estate that could be passed down through generations. Their search took them across France, America and Australia before they arrived in New Zealand, where Terry found an exceptional cool climate region, an emerging wine industry with a deep-rooted farming tradition, and an enduring pioneering spirit. They sought out distinctive parcels of land, leading them to the gravelly soils of Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay and the layered terraces of Te Muna in Martinborough. Craggy Range was founded in 1998 and is safeguarded by a 1,000-year family trust. The family and founding team were willing to forsake entire vintages if it meant maintaining the quality that defined Craggy Range wines. The 2024 Prestige Collection release marks the estate's 25th harvest and is the first vintage guided by Chief Winemaker Ben Tombs.
