Covert Farms Family Estate

Covert Farms Family Estate is a fourth-generation, 650-acre regenerative farm and winery. Its award-winning wine portfolio is made with certified organic, estate-grown grapes and includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, Rosé, proprietary red blends, single varietal reserves and the iconic Amicitia. The farm was established in 1959, when George Covert purchased undeveloped land north of Oliver; his wife Winnifred and their sons Calvin and Michael later joined him in Canada to start Covert Farms. The estate also offers licensed facilities for intimate weddings and corporate events, though starting in 2024 it will no longer offer visitor experiences to the farm.

Covert Farms was established in 1959, when George Covert purchased undeveloped land north of Oliver after being intrigued by the area's climate for growing soft fruit and vegetables. In 1964, George brought his wife Winnifred and their two sons Calvin and Michael to Oliver to start their new Canadian life and Covert Farms. Calvin managed their cattle ranch on Richter Pass in Osoyoos, while Mike helped George in the vegetable business; Winnifred kept the books and sold produce out of the window of the old office. A mixed farm from the start included tomatoes, onions, potatoes, corn, alfalfa, orchards and vineyards. From the 1960s until 1989, the year of the grape pull-out, Covert Farms was one of the larger vineyards in the Okanagan Valley (180 acres), growing French Hybrids, Okanagan Riesling and Labruscas such as 'White Diamond'. Today, Covert Farms Family Estate is a fourth-generation, 650-acre regenerative farm and winery producing certified organic, estate-grown wines.
