History
Correct Craft's history begins in 1925, when Walter C. Meloon, whose family had generations of boat building experience, decided to pursue the boat manufacturing business. He moved his family from New Hampshire to Florida and formed the Florida Variety Boat Company in Pine Castle, Florida. In 1926 the company became one of the pioneers in boat transportation, trailering boats by highway. In 1928 it began building small race boats used for local races around Central Florida, including on Lake Ivanhoe in Orlando, Florida. In 1930 the Florida Variety Boat Company was renamed Pine Castle Boat and Construction Company. In 1936, after hearing a radio advertisement describing "The correct heel for your shoe," Walter C. Meloon thought, "why not market the boats as 'the Correct Craft for you?'" and the name was changed to Correct Craft. In 1937 Meloon was approached to dredge and build a series of canals throughout Winter Park, Florida for a new attraction announced as "The Venice of America"; the 25-passenger Scenic Boat Tours originally used Correct Craft boats and officially began on January 1, 1938. In 1942, as demand for Correct Craft boats increased, a new plant was opened in Titusville, Florida. Correct Craft states that since 1925 it has operated as the world's leader in tournament inboard, freshwater fish and utility and recreational boats, as well as marine propulsion and watersports parks, and that it has grown into an industry-driving organization focused on people, performance and philanthropy.
