Overview

Copa Corporation is a Japanese company headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, that specializes in product planning, development, wholesale, and demonstration selling (実演販売, jitsuen hanbai). Founded in October 1998 by Taisuke Yoshimura, who had worked as a promotional salesperson for Nihon Seal, the company grew out of his experience in department-store demonstration sales. Its philosophy is to "sell kindness and emotion, and earn smiles and gratitude," and it describes itself as a group of professionals in both making and selling products. Copa's business spans four main areas: product planning and development, wholesale, dispatch of demonstration salespeople, and promotional video production. It also operates Demo Cow (デモカウ), Japan's first specialty store for demonstration selling, with a directly managed antenna shop in Tokyo Solamachi and a second store in Kitasenju Marui. The company's products include household items such as the Yumegenkuru pillow mat, G-Zero pocket umbrella, Oni Koge oil remover, G-Zero mug bottle, and 5 Seconds Shine foot care tools, as well as beauty and health items like the ELEXIA modeling mask and keratin-dissolving cleansing oil. These products are sold through TV shopping, retail stores, and e-commerce. Copa listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers Market (now Growth Market) in June 2020. It has expanded its demonstration salesperson management, with a roster of performers who appear on television shopping programs and in stores. The company also runs a training school for demonstration salespeople, originally under the Japan Demonstration Salesperson Association, which was merged into Copa in 2015. In 2015 it established a Taiwan branch, which was withdrawn in 2018. Copa continues to develop and sell unique consumer products, leveraging its demonstration-selling expertise to create items that solve everyday problems.

History

Copa Corporation was founded in October 1998 as a limited company (有限会社) in Nakano-ku, Tokyo, by Taisuke Yoshimura. Yoshimura had been involved in demonstration sales since his university days, working part-time at Akihabara Department Store and later as a promotional salesperson for Nihon Seal. In November 1999, the company began storefront sales, and in February 2002 it launched its website. Internet mail-order sales started in May 2003, followed by demonstration sales on TV shopping in November 2003. In January 2006, the headquarters moved to Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, and in December 2006 the company was reorganized into a stock company (株式会社). At the same time, it established the Japan Demonstration Salesperson Association (株式会社実演販売士協会) to operate a training school for demonstration salespeople. In February 2007, it began a training seminar for demonstration salespeople, now called "Uru no Gokui Juku." In March 2010, it established High Home Market Co., Ltd., and in May 2010 opened a social commerce site "Wow! no Ousama." In December 2010, "Wow Live" started. In December 2012, Legend Matsushita appeared on the TV program "Monday Late Night." In January 2015, the company absorbed the Japan Demonstration Salesperson Association and High Home Market, forming the new Copa Corporation. In March 2015, it established a Taiwan branch, its first overseas expansion, but withdrew in March 2018. In April 2018, it opened its directly managed antenna shop "Demo Cow" in Tokyo Solamachi, and in May 2018 opened its e-commerce site "Demo Cow." In June 2020, Copa listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers Market (now Growth Market). In December 2020, it opened a second "Demo Cow" store in Kitasenju Marui. The company continues to develop and sell unique consumer products and dispatch demonstration salespeople to TV shopping and retail events.
