Overview
Conflex Corporation is a Japanese computational chemistry software company headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo. Established in April 2000 with capital stock of ¥10,000,000, the company develops and licenses molecular modeling software, most notably the CONFLEX suite for conformation search and analysis. Its products help researchers explore the conformational space of small and large molecules, aiding in the selection of better quality leads during drug discovery. The company also develops the CONFLEX Interface, a visualization and analysis platform designed for analyzing CONFLEX outputs such as conformational analyses, spectra, and crystal packing. In addition to its own products, Conflex Corporation acts as a sales agent for third-party computational chemistry software including Gaussian, GaussView, TCPLinda, AMBER, and ChemDraw. The company provides computational chemistry services, contract computing, consulting, and training. It operates a USA office, CONFLEX USA, located in Carlsbad, California. The company is led by President & CEO Kazuo Ohta, with Motoharu Ohta as a board member and Hitoshi Goto as an outside director. Conflex Corporation continues to release updated versions of its software, with recent releases such as CONFLEX10, CONFLEX DOCK 1, and CONFLEX Interface10 in September 2025.
History
Conflex Corporation was established in April 2000 in Japan with capital stock of ¥10,000,000. The company was founded to provide computational chemistry solutions, focusing on conformation search and analysis software. In its founding year, it began parallelization of CONFLEX and became an official agent for AMBER. In 2001, the company released CONFLEX2000, a system for conformer creation, and Parallel CONFLEX. In 2002, it released BARISTA, a multi-conformation analysis system. In 2003, Conflex Corporation became a sales agent for Gaussian, Inc., offering Gaussian, GaussView, and TCPLinda. That same year, CONFLEX USA was established, and the company developed CONFLEX.NET, a system for providing molecular structures, with a grant from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for new projects in telecommunications and broadcasting. The head office was moved from Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, to Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. In 2004, CONFLEX5 was released, followed by CONFLEX.NET in 2005 and CONFLEX6 in 2006. The head office was relocated from Shinjuku-ku to Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, in 2006. Subsequent releases included CONFLEX6.2 in 2007, CONFLEX6.7 in 2009, and CONFLEX6.8 in 2011. In 2012, the company became a sales agent for PerkinElmer Informatics and released CONFLEX7.A. CONFLEX7.B followed in 2014, and CONFLEX7.C in 2015. In 2016, the head office moved from Shinagawa-ku to Minato-ku, Tokyo, and CONFLEX7.D was released. CONFLEX8.A was released in 2017. In 2018, the company's research division was designated as a research institute. The company has continued to develop its software, with recent releases in September 2025 including CONFLEX10 Rev.A, CONFLEX DOCK 1 Rev.A, and CONFLEX Interface10 Rev.A. Throughout its history, Conflex Corporation has expanded its product line and maintained a presence in both Japan and the United States, serving the computational chemistry community.
