History
The Comité d'histoire parlementaire et politique (CHPP) was founded in 2002 by Jean Garrigues, a French academic. It was established as an association under the French law of 1901, which governs non-profit organisations. Its founding purpose was to promote research on French and international political life and to improve public understanding of parliamentary activities. From its inception, the CHPP has brought together a diverse membership of teachers, researchers, students, parliamentarians, local elected officials and informed amateurs who share an interest in French and international political life, and in parliaments in particular. The organisation has consistently organised conferences and study days, publishing their proceedings regularly. It also established a peer-reviewed journal, Parlement(s), Revue d'histoire politique, which remains a central part of its scholarly output. Each year, the CHPP organises a monthly seminar at the Centre d'histoire de Sciences Po under the general title "Histoires politiques". This seminar series has become a regular fixture in the French academic calendar for political history. In 2024, Pierre Allorant succeeded the founder as president. The bureau currently includes Pierre Allorant, Éric Anceau, Walter Badier, David Bellamy, Christophe Bellon, Noëlline Castagnez, Jérémy Guedj, Sabine Jansen, David Mélo and Jérôme Pozzi.
