Overview

Colmado Santo Domingo is a small, historic grocery store (colmado) located at Carrer de Sant Domingo, number 1, in Palma, Mallorca, Spain. It is one of the few traditional colmados in Palma that have survived the passage of time, resisting competition from large supermarkets and chain stores. The shop is known for its specialization in traditional Mallorcan food products, its family-style service, and its appeal to quality-conscious tourists. Its interior is tiny—only about 8 meters long—with wooden shelves on each side and cured sausages hanging from the ceiling. The facade is small, with no outdoor displays or glass windows; products are hung outside. The store sells embotits (cured sausages), cheeses, fig bread, wines, and typical liqueurs of Mallorca. It was founded in 1886 under the name Colmado Londres. In 1960 it was renamed Fruiteria Londres, and in 1986 it became Colmado de Santo Domingo when the married couple who ran it retired and transferred it to Pedro Amengual. In 2019, Pedro Miguel, son of Pedro Amengual, took over the business, representing the second generation of this shop full of traditional foods from the island of Mallorca.
