Overview
Cobac Parc is a family-oriented theme park and water park located in Mesnil-Roc'h (Lanhélin), in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany, France. Opened in 1975, the park occupies a 12-hectare natural setting less than 30 minutes from both Rennes and Saint-Malo, positioning it as a regional leisure destination for families in western France. It combines traditional amusement rides with a substantial aquatic area, the Aqua'Fun Park, which opened in 2011 and is described as the largest water park in the Grand Ouest region. The park offers around 40 attractions, including roller coasters, family rides, water slides and pools. Its themed areas draw on Breton legends and corsair history, with zones such as Les Légendes Bretonnes (Breton Legends) and Les Corsaires (The Corsairs). The mascot Coby is a recurring presence, featured in children's birthday packages and seasonal events. Ticket options include the Billet Malin (advance-purchase ticket), standard Billet Cobac, combined meal tickets, and the Coby Pass season pass, with an optional Aqua'Fun Park add-on. Cobac Parc was taken over by Jean-Christophe and Gaëlle Charbonnel in 2004, who revitalized the park and oversaw the addition of its first roller coaster in 2007. In 2012 the Grand Aquarium de Saint-Malo acquired the park, bringing it into the Groupe Looping portfolio, which operates 18 leisure parks across Europe. The park welcomes an average of 110,000 visitors per year between April and September, making it the third most visited site in Ille-et-Vilaine. As of 30 September 2018, its revenue was €1,868,300 with 12 employees.
History
Cobac Parc opened in 1975 in Mesnil-Roc'h (Lanhélin), Ille-et-Vilaine, establishing itself as a regional amusement park in Brittany. For nearly three decades it operated as a modest local attraction. A turning point came in 2004 when Jean-Christophe and Gaëlle Charbonnel took over the park, initiating a period of renewal. In 2007 the park added its first roller coaster, the Corsaire, a metal coaster manufactured by Soquet, which opened on 28 April 2007. The ride features a 300-metre track, a 10-metre height, a 9.8-metre drop and a top speed of 40 km/h, with a capacity of 600 passengers per hour. In 2010 Cobac Parc inaugurated two new attractions: Le Surcouf, a rocking boat, and La Tour de Gué, an observation tower, representing an investment of €640,000. The following year, 2011, saw the opening of Aqua'Fun Park, a major expansion of the aquatic area described as the largest water park in the Grand Ouest. Covering 2 hectares, it features several slides with 12-metre-high starts and 140-metre-long circuits, including a kamikaze, black hole, rapid river, giant wave slide and two-person raft slides. This €2 million investment introduced around ten water attractions. In 2012 the Grand Aquarium de Saint-Malo acquired the park, integrating it into the Groupe Looping, which owns 18 leisure parks across Europe, including the Grand Aquarium de Saint-Malo and Cobac Parc in Ille-et-Vilaine, Parc Bagatelle on the Opal Coast, Mini-Châteaux and Grand Aquarium de Touraine near Amboise, Planète Sauvage near Nantes, La Mer de Sable near Paris, Aquaparc in Switzerland, Avonturenpark Hellendoorn in the Netherlands, Pleasurewood Hills in England and Isla Mágica in Spain. Also in 2012, Aqua'Fun Park added a bowl slide called Super Crater from Dutch manufacturer Van Egdom. In 2014 the Aqua Kids Park opened at a cost of €100,000. In 2015 the park celebrated its 40th anniversary. Over the years Cobac Parc continued to refresh its attractions. In 2013 the Promenade des Menhirs (formerly Circuit des Tacots) and Ronde des Fées (formerly Chaises Volantes) were introduced, both from SBF Visa. In 2016 the Dragons de la Tour (Magic Bikes) from Zamperla was added. In 2023 several new rides debuted, including Caravelles (Zamperla), Excalibur (SBF Visa) and Le Graal (SBF Visa). The park also renamed several attractions in 2022, such as Chevauchée des Licornes (formerly Poneys Express), Le Dolmen (formerly Rapido) and Dragons de la Tour (formerly Magic Bikes). In 2025 the park introduced L'arche de Coby, and in 2026 announced Le Labyrinthe de Coby and Le Tournoi des Écuyers. As of 30 September 2018, the park reported revenue of €1,868,300 with 12 employees, and it welcomes an average of 110,000 visitors per year between April and September, making it the third most visited site in Ille-et-Vilaine.
