Overview
CN Fahrzeugbau GmbH was a German automobile manufacturer founded in 1986 in Dormagen by Christian Nowak. The company built hand-assembled replicas of the AC Cobra, using fibreglass open two-seater bodies and General Motors V8 engines producing up to 900 PS. The brand name was CN, and the company also collaborated with Dax. Over time CN expanded into motorsport-derived tuning, particularly for the Chevrolet Corvette and Chevrolet Camaro, and operated the Camaro-Tuning.com business from 2011. On 15 April 2020 CN Fahrzeugbau GmbH was liquidated due to a realignment; the CN-Cobra area was largely discontinued while the tuning area was expanded. The business continued as CN Racing GmbH with the existing team and a new owner, with Christian Nowak appointed liquidator. Today CN Racing GmbH, based at cobra-cn.de, offers Corvette and Camaro tuning, Cobra parts and services, and continues the Cobra heritage with modern safety and technology features such as ABS, ESP and traction control.
History
The Cobra story of Christian Nowak began in October 1986. Looking for an extravagant and unique V8 super sports car, he quickly made contact with a Cobra manufacturer in Düsseldorf. After a short-notice viewing appointment with unforgettable test-drive experiences, the Cobra emotion and fascination were awakened, and it was immediately clear that a modified build would only be possible in-house. The assembly instructions supplied with the Cobra kit purchase were soon discarded, and the parts list was continuously adapted and expanded. The enthusiasm for Cobra nostalgia design and sound became ever more sustainable, but from today's perspective the first Cobra was a plain disaster, as ultimately only the 400 PS GM engine convinced through its 'intense push' in straight-line driving. At one of the first Cobra meetings at the Hockenheimring, Cobra No. 1 immediately triggered lively interest and admiration among all visitors, and after an 'immoral offer' it changed owners. This was the starting signal for CN-Cobra No. 2. This represented a further qualitative improvement in terms of workmanship and vehicle technology, and with the beginning of a small Cobra spare parts warehouse, the first customers also ordered corresponding spare and wear parts. The next logical step was the founding of the company CN Fahrzeugbau in Dormagen. Continuous trips to England, the motherland of the Cobra, led to countless contacts with Cobra suppliers and manufacturers and promoted the experience potential and business expansion. A German representation of the English company DJ Sportcars was founded and built up. According to Wikipedia, Christian Nowak founded the company in Dormagen in 1986 for the production of automobiles. The brand name was CN. There was cooperation with Dax. The company produced replicas modelled on the AC Cobra. The open, two-seat body consisted of fibreglass. Various V8 engines from General Motors with up to 900 PS were available for propulsion. The vehicle length was 404 cm, width 178 cm, and height 117 cm. On 15 April 2020, the GmbH was liquidated due to a realignment. The CN-Cobra area was almost discontinued and the tuning area was expanded. From this emerged CN Racing GmbH, which continues with the existing team and a new owner. Christian Nowak was appointed liquidator. There was a balance-sheet overindebtedness. Today, under the CN Racing GmbH banner, the company offers Corvette and Camaro tuning, with Camaro-Tuning.com conversions for Chevrolet Camaro Gen. 5 and Gen. 6 offered since 2011. The company also continues the Cobra heritage, stating that 30 years after the first COBRA saw the light of day, the world's most modern Cobra is now coming, with ABS, ESP and traction control in the areas of safety and technology.
