History
The Civic Informational and Analytical Centre for Youth is a Ukrainian youth civic organization based in Kharkiv. Its mission is the harmonious development of young people through non-formal education and civic activation. The Centre has implemented numerous programs and activities, primarily in Kharkiv and across Ukraine. One of its earliest documented programs is "Unified Informational Civic Space for Youth of Kharkiv," which has been running since 2003. This program involves dynamic information and feedback between NGOs, authorities, students, and other institutions, engaging over 2,000 people and discussing around 4,000 topics and opportunities. In 2005, the Centre co-organized the Second All-Ukrainian Youth Forum in Kharkiv, bringing together about 200 people from Ukraine and abroad. During the 2004 Ukrainian presidential elections, it ran the "Be Sure of YOUR Choice!" program as part of the "Youth in Elections" initiative, supported by the Centre for Political Education (Kyiv) and the European community. In October 2005, the Centre launched the youth civic weekly "NANEDILI," an international online publication with news, announcements, and analysis on the third sector, youth, social, and educational policy. It received partial funding from the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports in 2005 and reached 10,000 recipients. The Centre has also provided informational and technical support to youth institutions, including creating and maintaining websites for the Kharkiv Regional Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth, the Department for Family and Youth Affairs of the Kharkiv City Council, and the Kharkiv City Youth Leisure Center. It participated in the "Development of Local Civic Initiatives" project funded by the Stefan Batory Foundation, producing 12 issues of the electronic newspaper "Third Sector" and a CD compilation "Atlas of Partnership 2006" with over 170 educational, methodological, and regulatory materials, including the first catalog of Kharkiv NGOs. The Centre runs the program "Education and Activation of Youth in Kharkiv" jointly with the Kharkiv City Youth Leisure Center, providing systematic training for young leaders through seasonal schools and seminars. It has published six manuals and a CD guide. It also implemented the "Human Rights Education Campaign" for youth in Kharkiv, supported by the Slovak Association "People in Need" (PIPA) and the "Europe XXI" Foundation, including research, an electronic library, trainings, and a Human Rights School. The All-Ukrainian program "Information Support for Civic Initiatives" has been running since 2006, engaging over 1,000 people and discussing around 500 topics, with an information newsletter based on the national youth network "Millennium Development Goals" (Youth MDG). From September 2007, the Centre ran the "Campaign to Support Student Self-Governance" in coalition with youth NGOs, supported by the US Embassy Democracy Fund. On November 21, 2005, it founded an all-Ukrainian discussion list on legal regulation of student self-governance. In late 2006, the Centre was among 163 organizations that signed an open letter to Verkhovna Rada deputies supporting Yevhen Zakharov for the position of Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. Between October 31, 2006, and November 1, 2007, the Centre conducted a "honor monitoring" of local civic communication networks online, analyzing 4,682 messages across 9 objects, producing a "White Book of Best Practices" and a "grey list" of information discrimination. In late 2008 to early 2009, the Centre prepared the collection "Local Programs for Social Formation and Development of Youth: Experience 2008," a 962-page publication presenting local targeted programs from almost all regions of Ukraine. Since March 2010, the Centre has been implementing the program "School of New Opportunities: Education and Employment" to help students mobilize in the labor market through information on additional education, internships, and direct employment.
