Overview

Citimall Sampit is a modern shopping mall located in Sampit, the capital of East Kotawaringin Regency in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. It opened on 30 December 2013 under the name Borneo City Sampit and was renamed Citimall Sampit in April 2017. The mall is owned by NWP Property (PT Nirvana Wastu Pratama), a joint venture between Warburg Pincus and PT City Retail Developments Tbk (IDX: NIRO). It is the first and only modern shopping mall in Sampit, serving as a lifestyle icon for the region. The mall sits on a land area of 20,500 square meters with a net leasable area (NLA) of 19,000 square meters. It provides a complete range of fashion, lifestyle, entertainment, and food and beverage (F&B) products for families. Its key anchors include Hypermart, Matahari Department Store, and a cinema (Cinépolis, formerly Cinemaxx). Other notable tenants include MR.DIY, which opened its 145th store in Indonesia at the mall on 30 December 2019. Citimall Sampit is part of NWP Property's network of community-based shopping malls, which target the middle-to-lower income market. The Citimall brand is used by NWP Property for its malls across Indonesia. The mall was developed as part of NWP Property's expansion into Kalimantan, initially under the "Borneo City" banner. Since its opening, it has become a popular leisure and entertainment destination for locals in East Kotawaringin Regency.

History

The project that became Citimall Sampit was first discussed in September 2012, when NWP Property was reported to be building two new malls: Citimall Sampit and The Park Solo. Initially, NWP Property used the "Borneo City" banner specifically for its malls in Kalimantan. Borneo City Sampit opened on 30 December 2013, with its first anchor tenant, Hypermart, on the ground floor. The inauguration was attended by the Regent of East Kotawaringin, Supian Hadi. The mall was built on a 2.05-hectare plot of land with a net leasable area (NLA) of 1.9 hectares. On 12 June 2014, Borneo City Sampit inaugurated its second anchor tenant, Matahari Department Store, marking Matahari's second expansion in Central Kalimantan. The department store is located on the first floor. Borneo City Sampit officially changed its name to Citimall Sampit in April 2017. Citimall is NWP Property's brand for its malls targeting the middle-to-lower market. Three months later, Cinépolis (formerly Cinemaxx) opened a branch at Citimall Sampit. The cinema consists of 4 screens with a capacity of 672 seats. On 30 December 2019, MR.DIY opened its 145th store in Indonesia at Citimall Sampit. MR.DIY occupies two floors of the mall near the entrance. The mall remains the only modern shopping attraction in Sampit and a popular leisure and entertainment destination among locals.
