Overview
Cirkultura is a Croatian voluntary, non-partisan association dedicated to circus arts. It was founded in 2008 under the name Udruga Razbibriga by circus artist Matija Vuletić, and at the end of 2017 it changed its name to Cirkultura. The organization brings together people who want to take part in organizing an active social life in Croatia and to promote circus art. Its stated goals are the promotion, study, practice and advancement of circus skills, as well as the production and performance of shows and performances. The association is based in Samobor, Croatia, and operates primarily in the Croatian market. It is known for initiating and co-organizing the Cu'fus Circus Street Festival in Samobor, and for organizing the Croatian Hula Hoop Convention (CHC). The first CHC was held from 26 to 29 September 2014 at the former Taborec barracks in Samobor; in early 2015 it was nominated as the best hula hoop event in the world in 2014 on hooping.org. After a second successful convention in Samobor, the event moved to Lovran in 2016, with the next CHC planned for 2018. Cirkultura's activities span education in various fields of circus and performing arts, the performance and production of shows, and the organization of festivals and events. Its program includes productions such as Đon, Kesten, Kesteni, Papaja, Kapetan Šeflja, Vivo Sportivo, vatra, Prometheus fire show, fire of Samael and Cu'fus. The association also runs THE Festival. As a non-profit association rather than a commercial company, Cirkultura occupies a niche in Croatia's cultural and educational landscape, combining circus arts training with public performances and festivals.
History
Cirkultura traces its origins to 2008, when Matija Vuletić founded the circus association Udruga Razbibriga. Vuletić, who has been involved in circus arts for around 15 years, developed as a circus artist and as an organizer of circus festivals and events. Through the association he offered education in various fields of circus and performing arts, as well as the performance and production of shows. The association describes itself as a voluntary and non-partisan organization that gathers people who want to participate in organizing an active social life in the Republic of Croatia and thereby promote circus art. Its goals include promoting, studying, practicing and perfecting circus skills, and producing and performing shows and performances. A major early project was the Croatian Hula Hoop Convention (CHC). The first edition was held from 26 to 29 September 2014 at the former Taborec barracks in Samobor, organized by Udruga Razbibriga. In early 2015 the event was nominated as the best hula hoop event in the world in 2014 on hooping.org, a site promoting hula hoop activities worldwide. After a second successful convention in Samobor, the convention moved to Lovran in 2016. The next CHC was announced for 2018. The association was also the initiator and part of the organizing team of the Cu'fus Circus Street Festival in Samobor. Its repertoire of productions includes Đon, Kesten, Kesteni, Papaja, Kapetan Šeflja, Vivo Sportivo, vatra, Prometheus fire show, fire of Samael and Cu'fus, and it also runs THE Festival. At the end of 2017, Udruga Razbibriga changed its name to Cirkultura. The organization continues to operate as a Croatian circus arts association producing festivals, shows and educational programs.
