Overview
Cinepur is a Czech film magazine founded in 1991 by students of film studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. Initially a quarterly, it struggled financially throughout the 1990s and sometimes paused publication for extended periods. It was later supported by FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) and since 1999 has been published by the Association of Friends of Cinepur (Sdružení přátel Cinepuru). From its 17th issue in 2001, Cinepur became a regularly published bimonthly. The magazine's seventh issue in 1997 marked the change of its name from the original Cinemapur to Cinepur. Over the years, Cinepur has attracted contributions from many film scholars, publicists, critics, and filmmakers. Its profile has gradually evolved from the cinephilia of the early 1990s (associated with Charles University) through academicism (linked to FAMU) to its current style of expert writing aimed at a broader public. In addition to edited articles, Cinepur's online version provides space for blogs by its editors. The magazine has won the Union of Publishers' competition for best magazine twice: in 2005 it took first place in the vote for best specialized magazine, and in 2007 it won the award for best cover of the year among all magazines. Cinepur is sold at a number of distribution points in the Czech Republic, and since issue 57 it has also been available at some newsstands. It is also distributed through its own mail-order service. Cinepur's editorial team has been led by several editors-in-chief: the first was Pavlína Coufalová, followed by Karel Spěšný, Helena Bendová, Zdeněk Holý (2007–2010), Jan Kolář (2010–2011), and since June 2011 Jindřiška Bláhová. Current editorial members include Jan Kolář, Lucie Česálková, Antonín Tesař, Aleš Stuchlý, and Jindřiška Bláhová. The original graphic design and logo were created by graphic designer David Fírek, who was also the magazine's art director until 2010. Since 2011, the magazine's graphics have been designed by the studio The Bestseller Creative Platform (Linda Dostálková, Marek Meduna, David Kořínek).
