Overview
Christmann & Pfeifer GmbH & Co. KG, commonly branded C + P, is a German corporate group with roots in Breidenbach in the central Hessian region. It was founded in 1925 by Wilhelm Christmann and Otto Pfeifer as Christmann, Pfeifer & Co., initially producing sheet-metal and steel products for the construction industry. Over the decades the company expanded into steel lockers, steel furniture and complete furnishing solutions, becoming a market leader in steel-based furnishing in Germany. The group operates production sites in Breidenbach (Hesse), Gotha (Thuringia) and Legnica (Poland), and employs around 600 to 650 people. Its sales reach extends worldwide, with field staff in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and Dubai. C + P processes roughly 1,000 tonnes of steel per month and handles over 65,000 orders per year, from single furniture items to complete large-scale furnishing projects. The company is known for its 'Made in Germany' steel furniture, its in-house logistics fleet, and its dip-coating process for steel furniture. Until 2025, C + P consisted of two independent business divisions: Construction (Bauen) and Furnishing (Einrichten). On 31 July 2025, the furnishing division was sold to the Dutch investment company Nimbus Group, while the construction division with its steel fabrication operations and the inter-company training centre founded in 1999 remained within the group. The C + P Bildungszentrum is Hesse's largest training association in the metal sector, supported by the state of Hesse and the EU.
History
Christmann & Pfeifer was founded in 1925 by Wilhelm Christmann and Otto Pfeifer in Biedenkopf-Wallau as Christmann, Pfeifer & Co., producing sheet-metal and steel products for the construction industry. In 1931 the company was converted into an open trading company (Offene Handelsgesellschaft, OHG) named Christmann & Pfeifer OHG and moved to a new facility in Breidenbach. In the years after the Great Depression, production halls were expanded and the manufacture of steel lockers began. In 1936 Jacob Hainbach joined the OHG as another personally liable partner. Although the company struggled with material shortages after World War II, no employee was laid off; by the end of 1946 the C + P group already had 244 employees. In 1949, after the departure of Dr. Siebeneicher, who had been appointed managing director by the American military government, Jacob Hainbach took over the management. In 1976, C + P Elementbau GmbH & Co. KG was founded to produce and distribute movable partition wall systems. In the mid-1980s, C + P ran into economic difficulties, from which it emerged significantly strengthened through fundamental restructuring and reorganisation. Rolf Heinecke became the new managing director of Christmann & Pfeifer GmbH & Co. KG. With the takeover of the 'Gothaer Metallwarenfabrik' in 1991, the subsidiary C + P Stahlmöbel GmbH & Co. KG was founded. In 1996, C + P Industrietechnik GmbH & Co. KG took over the steel construction division of Saxonia AG Freiberg. In 1996 the C + P group was restructured again, and since then Christmann & Pfeifer GmbH & Co. KG has acted as a holding company. In 1999, C + P founded the 'Bündnis für Ausbildung' (Alliance for Training) in Breidenbach. The C + P Bildungszentrum is Hesse's largest training association in the metal sector and is funded by the state of Hesse and the EU. Partners include member companies in the Marburg-Biedenkopf region, the KreisJobCenter Marburg-Biedenkopf, Lahn-Dill-Arbeit GmbH, the Federal Employment Agency, the IHK Dillenburg and the vocational schools in Biedenkopf. The number of participating companies has grown to around 60, whose apprentices complete their first year of training at the C + P Bildungszentrum. In 2000, member companies sent 40 apprentices to Breidenbach; today up to 85 new apprentices are supervised annually. C + P has produced several national champions in vocational competitions. Until 2025, C + P consisted of the independent business divisions Construction and Furnishing. On 31 July 2025, the furnishing division was sold to the Dutch investment company Nimbus Group. The construction division with its steel fabrication operations and the inter-company training centre founded in 1999 remained within the group.
