Overview

Christliche Literatur-Verbreitung e.V. (CLV) is a German publishing house based in Bielefeld. According to its own account, it was founded on 15 May 1983 by seven brothers and sisters and was recognized as a non-profit organization. The founders had worked together for many years in evangelistic youth and leisure work and developed a new publishing concept based on no debt, high print runs, low prices, and using profits for further projects or for mission work. The first three books under the CLV imprint, along with some tracts, appeared a few weeks after founding. For the first ten years all work was done on a voluntary basis; later two staff members were employed, a number that has since grown to seven, while much work is still done voluntarily. The publisher's program includes Christian literature such as children's and youth books, including the series 'Eine Geschichte aus der Bibel'.

History

The founders of Christliche Literatur-Verbreitung had worked together for many years in evangelistic youth and leisure work and had themselves been shaped by good spiritual literature. They observed that Christian distribution books were, with few exceptions, quite expensive and therefore hardly suitable for wide distribution, and that edifying, furthering and enlightening literature was at a high price level and hardly affordable for many young Christians. This prompted them to consider a new publishing concept: no debt, high print runs, low prices, and profits used for further projects or for mission. On 15 May 1983, seven brothers and sisters founded the 'Christliche Literatur-Verbreitung e.V.' in Bielefeld, which was also recognized as non-profit. A few weeks later the first three books under the new CLV imprint appeared, along with some tracts. In the first ten years all work was done on a voluntary basis. Afterwards two staff members were permanently employed, a number that has since grown to seven; much work is still done voluntarily.
