History

Chr. Mayr GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1897 by Christian Mayr. Initially, the company manufactured transmissions for sawmills and mills. As electrical drive technology gradually became established, the company developed and produced modern drive elements. In 1956, Fritz Mayr joined the company, which two years later began developing safety couplings. The first foreign representative office was established in Austria in 1963. In 1965, Fritz Mayr took over the management. The company expanded by moving with 70 employees from Kaufbeuren to Mauerstetten in 1973, occupying 4,500 m². The foreign business was expanded with the founding of the production site in Poland in 1994 and the establishment of a representative office in China in 2004. The company grew steadily: in 2005, a new building and expansion took place at mayr Poland. The German production facility in Mauerstetten was also expanded, with a production extension of 2,000 m² in 2006 and a further 3,000 m² in 2012. The administration building in Mauerstetten was extended by a third floor in 2014. In 2018, the mayr.com communication center was opened; in 2020, the conversion of existing halls 1 and 2, including social facilities, roof terrace and company restaurant, was completed; and in 2021, the automatic high-bay warehouse was put into operation. Since 2018, Ferdinand Mayr has been a member of the management board and took over the position of CEO in 2022. The independent family business is now in its fifth generation of ownership by the Mayr family.
