Chi Po-lin Foundation

The Chi Po-lin Foundation (看見．齊柏林基金會) was established to carry on the legacy of aerial photographer and director Chi Po-lin, who left behind more than 100,000 negatives, 500,000 digital images and a thousand hours of footage from 25 years of aerial filming. The foundation states that it digitally archives this imagery as a permanent asset and applies it to environmental education, academic research and cross-sector collaboration. Its stated missions are sustainability, rooting, transmission and dedication, and it operates the Chi Po-lin Space (齊柏林空間) as a curatorial and education base, offering all-ages courses and school materials. It also runs programs such as the Chi Po-lin Aerial Taiwan Photography Award and the Chi Po-lin Environmental Documentary Award, and sells licensed imagery and cultural-creative merchandise.

According to the foundation's own account, Chi Po-lin spent 25 years and 2,500 hours of flight producing hundreds of thousands of negatives and digital images. His first aerial documentary, Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above (看見台灣), released in 2013, moved all of Taiwan and awakened action on land conservation. In early summer 2017 he took on a new mission, aiming to link Taiwan with the world through the sequel. However, two days after the opening press conference, an accident while scouting locations in Hualien took his life. The foundation states that it was established to pick up the dream he left behind, to carry on and extend his work, and to let his spirit take root and rise in Taiwan. It describes its missions as sustainability (digitally archiving his aerial imagery), rooting (using his imagery for teaching materials and lectures), transmission (becoming a platform to gather and nurture Taiwanese image documentarians) and dedication (continuing his work of documenting Taiwan's environment and serving as a platform connecting Taiwan with the world on environmental protection and education).

A platform that uses imagery to create the power to change the environment, and to connect Taiwan with the world on environmental protection and education.
