Chatka AKT Dobrodziej na Witasówce

Chatka AKT "Dobrodziej" na Witasówce is a mountain lodge in the Beskid Żywiecki range of southern Poland, situated on the Witasówka clearing on the northern slope of Buczynka near Pilsko, above the village of Sopotnia Wielka. It was long known as Chatka Budowlańców (the "Builders' Hut") because it was managed by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. Today it is owned and run by Stowarzyszenie AKT "Dobrodziej", a student tourism association, and it operates as a private, seasonal mountain hut. The hut offers 30 sleeping places on bunk beds in multi-person rooms, a communal kitchen, a dining room and bathrooms. It is open during the summer holidays and on weekends. Guests can use a shared kitchen, cold running water and improvised indoor toilets; a campfire site is located next to the building. In recent years the hut has been modernised and living conditions have improved considerably. The building sits on a large forest clearing, slightly off the green trail from Sopotnia Wielka to Hala Miziowa, and is reached in about 25 minutes from the Sopotnia-Kolonia or Sopotnia Wielka-Wodospad bus stops via the hut trail. Because it lies relatively low and away from the most popular routes, the hut is rarely visited by backpacking tourists. It has attracted various opinions over the years — some described it as a heavily "alcoholic" hut, while others were charmed by its peace, quiet and small number of visitors. Since private hosts took over, the situation at the hut is said to have improved significantly. Visitors are advised to contact the hut's caretaker well in advance, as the facility now accepts organised groups only.
