Overview

Chamlon BV is a Netherlands-based manufacturer of household cleaning tools and related products, operating from a production plant in the eastern part of the country, specifically in Ootmarsum. The company specializes in cleaning cloths and wipes, microfiber cloths, synthetic and natural chamois, semi-disposable wipes, sponges, floor mops and mop systems, dusters, and brushes. It also distributes a range of kitchen utensils and cookware. Chamlon positions itself as a manufacturer for premium brands, developing and producing products for national and international clients in the domestic, car-care, and professional cleaning markets. The company emphasizes quality, innovation, and customization, offering products on jumbo rolls, cut and bulk packed, or fully packed as end-products, with options for printing, heat-stamping, and other customizations. Chamlon's history traces back to 1854 through a tanning company, L. Mombers NV, which closed in 1975. Wim Mombers, the last descendant, invented the synthetic chamois and started Mombavlies BV on the old tannery premises in Waalwijk. In 1990, the Van Der Maas & Logtenberg family bought Mombavlies and moved production to a new factory in Ootmarsum, renaming it Chamlon BV. In the early 2000s, Chamlon developed the Microfiber-PU cloth and became a leading manufacturer of smart cleaning cloths. In 2014, the current owner, a chemical engineer by training, took over the company from his parents and has since focused on redefining the market with high-quality, innovative products. Chamlon is a small, agile team that aims to be the best rather than the biggest, with a strong focus on sustainability. The company has set goals for zero waste production and aims to be CO2 neutral by 2025. It holds various certificates for its implemented management systems. Chamlon remains a private, family-owned business, deeply rooted in Dutch manufacturing traditions.

History

The history of Chamlon dates back to 1854, when Lambert's father, an enterprising man in Oisterwijk, operated several businesses around 1820, including an inn, a tavern where horses could rest, and a saddlery. His son Lambert, dissatisfied with the quality of leather from Waalwijk, moved there, learned tanning, and started his own tannery. This tannery evolved into the 100-year-old tanning company L. Mombers NV. Wim Mombers was the last descendant of this tanning company. In 1975, the doors of L. Mombers NV closed permanently. Wim Mombers had made a splash with the invention of the synthetic chamois, which was even better than a leather chamois. He started a new company on the premises of the old tannery at the Famous Langstraat in Waalwijk, called Mombavlies BV. In 1990, the family Van Der Maas & Logtenberg bought Mombavlies and moved the production to a newly built factory in the small town of Ootmarsum in the mid-east of the Netherlands. They renamed the company to Chamlon BV. At the beginning of the year 2000, Chamlon developed the Microfiber-PU cloth and became a leading manufacturer of smart cleaning cloths. In 2014, the current owner, a chemical engineer by origin with a strong passion for product development, got the chance to continue the company of his parents. Based on the belief that household products are not low-interest products and that good quality cleaning tools save time for more joy in life, he and his team started redefining the market, lifting cleaning tools to a higher level and putting customers ahead of the curve. From a unique product development approach, they develop high-quality products, innovative production technologies, and innovative smart technologies. Chamlon continues to operate as a private, family-owned manufacturer in Ootmarsum, producing for premium brands worldwide.
