Chaberton Estate Winery

Chaberton Estate Winery is a winery in Langley, British Columbia. Its history dates to 1975, when founders Claude and Inge Violet sold their winery and vineyard in France and relocated to the "New World," choosing South Langley for its terroir. The winery opened its doors in 1991, producing 3,000 cases in its first year as a Farm Gate winery, and today produces over 50,000 cases a year. Its portfolio includes more than 20 British Columbia VQA wines made from grapes grown in the Fraser Valley, Similkameen Valley, and Okanagan Valley. The estate also operates the Bacchus Bistro, an authentic French bistro overlooking a 55-acre vineyard.

The history of Chaberton Estate Winery dates back to 1975, when founders Claude and Inge Violet sold their winery and vineyard in France and decided to start their next chapter in the "New World." After visiting California, Ontario, and the Okanagan of British Columbia, they chose what is now the Metro Vancouver area, as their research showed the terroir in South Langley was similar to that of some of the best wineries in Northern France. They began by experimenting with numerous grape varietals to find those best suited to the Fraser Valley climate, then began planting their new vineyard in earnest in the mid-1980s. In 1991, their first year as a Farm Gate winery, they produced 3,000 cases of wine. Today, Chaberton Estate Winery produces over 50,000 cases of wine a year, made from grapes grown in its own vineyard as well as in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. After owning and running the winery and vineyard for over 25 years, the Violets retired and sold the winery to Anthony Cheng and Eugene Kwan.
