History
CGR Le Français has been a Bordeaux institution since 1801. Inaugurated on Place de l'Intendance, it was originally a neoclassical theater with 1,638 seats. It survived two devastating fires (1855 and 1920), each time preserving its majestic facade. In 1919, it dedicated itself to cinema, becoming one of the most beautiful halls in the city, with its famous painted ceiling 'Apollon et les Muses' by Émile Brunet and period chandeliers. It was managed successively by Paramount, then the Siritzky, UGC, and CGR circuits, and has hosted the greatest films in cinema history over the decades. After several major renovations, CGR Le Français reopened in 2010 in a fully renovated setting, with its historic frescoes restored, while retaining the soul and elegance of its past.
