Overview

The Centro Universitario del Fútbol y Ciencias del Deporte (also known as Universidad del Fútbol y Ciencias del Deporte, or UFD) is a football education institution based in San Agustín Tlaxiaca, a suburb of Pachuca, the capital of the Mexican state of Hidalgo. It is operated by CF Pachuca, one of Mexico's most prominent first-division football clubs. The institution combines youth football training with academic programs in sports sciences, aiming to develop professional players and sports professionals. Founded in 2001, UFD expanded its competitive footprint in 2007 when it acquired the license of CF Cuautitlán to enter the Segunda División, Mexico's third tier. The team competed there for three seasons, winning four of six tournaments, including a title hat-trick in its final three appearances. Despite earning promotion to the Liga de Ascenso after the 2009–10 season, UFD was denied promotion because it was a filial (farm) team of CF Pachuca. Consequently, the club withdrew its team to the Tercera División (fourth tier), where it has since played in Group 7. UFD has produced notable players such as Héctor Miguel Herrera and Carlos Alberto Peña. The institution remains active in developing football talent and offering sports science education, leveraging its affiliation with CF Pachuca and its facilities in San Agustín Tlaxiaca.

History

The Universidad del Fútbol y Ciencias del Deporte (UFD) was founded in 2001 as a football school operated by CF Pachuca, a Mexican first-division club. Its campus is located in San Agustín Tlaxiaca, a suburb of Pachuca, the capital of Hidalgo state. The institution was created to provide comprehensive training for young footballers, combining athletic development with education in sports sciences. In the summer of 2007, UFD acquired the license of CF Cuautitlán to enter the Segunda División, Mexico's third tier. The team competed in the Segunda División for three seasons, from 2007–08 to 2009–10. During this period, it won four of the six half-yearly tournaments: Clausura 2008, Clausura 2009, Apertura 2009, and Clausura 2010. The last three titles constituted a hat-trick of championships. After the 2009–10 season, UFD earned the right to be promoted to the Liga de Ascenso (second tier) as a two-time tournament winner. However, as a filial team of CF Pachuca, it was not allowed to be promoted. Instead, Altamira FC was promoted in its place. Consequently, UFD withdrew its team to the Tercera División (fourth tier), where it has since been assigned to Group 7. The institution has been a stepping stone for notable players such as Héctor Miguel Herrera and Carlos Alberto Peña. It continues to operate as a football school and sports science center, maintaining its affiliation with CF Pachuca.
