Overview
The Centre d'information et de documentation jeunesse (CIDJ) is a French non-profit association created in 1969 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It provides young people with free information and guidance on a wide range of topics: careers, studies, internships and summer jobs, scholarships, student housing, language stays, academic and career orientation, training, apprenticeships, opportunities to study or work abroad, project development, business creation, health, daily life and administrative procedures. The CIDJ is supported by the Ministry of National Education and Youth and is part of the Réseau Information jeunesse, a network of more than 1,300 structures that welcome young people close to their homes. The network includes a regional centre in each regional capital, as well as offices, points and information buses that make information accessible to young people. Since 6 July 2021, the CIDJ has left its historic premises for two new sites: 4, place du Louvre for public reception, and 6-8, rue Eugène-Oudiné for its headquarters, co-working and training spaces. The organisation publishes articles, runs events and salons, and offers online services such as E-conseils and Eurodesk information for going abroad. Its website, cidj.com, serves as a portal for studies, careers, orientation, jobs, internships and training.
History
The CIDJ was created in 1969 by the French Ministry of Youth and Sports, following the 1967 Rapport d'enquête sur la jeunesse française which recommended the creation of a youth information policy. It began in a prefabricated building at the corner of avenue Eiffel. During the 1970s, the concept of youth information developed, and in 1979-1989 the identity of "Information Jeunesse" was recognised. In the 1989-1999 decade, the CIDJ adapted to a changing world and the information shortage. From 1999 to 2009, it faced the challenges of digital technology, having entered the multimedia era in the mid-1990s. The 2009-2019 period saw youth policies intensify and the CIDJ undergo renovation as a pioneering concept. On 6 July 2021, the CIDJ left its historic premises for two new sites: 4, place du Louvre for public reception and 6-8, rue Eugène-Oudiné for its headquarters, co-working and training spaces. Throughout its history, the CIDJ has been part of the Réseau Information jeunesse, a network of over 1,300 structures across France.
