Center Vič (also known as Center Interspar Vič) is a shopping centre located in the Vič district of Ljubljana, Slovenia. It opened on 27 August 1997 and is anchored by an Interspar hypermarket, the third such Interspar store in Slovenia after those in BTC and Celje. The centre is part of the SPAR European Shopping Centers network, a pan-European chain of shopping centres. It comprises around 30 shops, employs approximately 350 people, and covers a total area of about 12,500 m². The centre publishes its own free seasonal newspaper and has hosted a blog on its website written by Alenka Godec since October 2014. Center Vič offers approximately 660 free parking spaces, including designated disabled and family parking, and provides two electric vehicle charging stations as part of the Gremo na elektriko (Elektra Ljubljana) system. A drive-in cinema has been held in its parking lot for nine seasons, opening on 20 May with the film Top Gun. The centre is easily accessible from the Ljubljana ring road or from the city centre via Tržaška cesta, as well as by city bus. It is positioned as a convenient shopping destination for the local community and wider Ljubljana area.
History
Center Vič was built to replace warehouses and production facilities of GPG (Gradbeno podjetje Grosuplje). The foundation stone was laid on 11 October 1995 by the then mayor of Ljubljana, Dimitrij Rupel. The construction was carried out by Gradbeno podjetje Grosuplje (GPG). The investment cost 2.5 billion Slovenian tolars. The investor was a mixed company ISC Shopping center, with director Igor Mervič at the time. The opening was planned for spring 1997. GPG also had a concession for the comprehensive arrangement of the area, including a new traffic arrangement for the entrance from Tržaška cesta to Tbilisijska, which envisaged road widening and the construction of a roundabout. Some urban planners expressed concerns about uncontrolled construction of large shopping centres in Ljubljana. Residents of Tbilisijska, Jamova and Tržaška (KS Stane Sever) opposed the roundabout due to the possibility of worsening living conditions in the neighbourhood and filed a complaint against the location permit. The centre opened on 27 August 1997. In 2005, the centre received an annex. In 2011, it had 12,000 m² of sales area and 24 shops. Its renovation worth 6 million euros began in 2017. The more thorough phase took place from March 2018. The opening of the renovated centre was on 27 September 2018, with performances by Isaac Palma, Ribič Pepe, Čuki, Manca Špik, Nipke and Trkaj, Plesna delavnica Bolero, Natalija Verboten, Marko Vozelj and Mojstri, and Lea Sirk.
