History
CBAK Energy Technology was founded in 2001 as one of the first domestic enterprises to enter the lithium-ion battery industry. In 2005 it cooperated with A123 to produce 26650 cylindrical batteries and became the world's first enterprise to industrialize lithium iron phosphate batteries. In 2006 it listed on NASDAQ under the ticker CBAT, becoming China's first lithium-ion battery manufacturer listed in the United States, and built one of China's first fully automated cylindrical battery production lines. In 2008 it undertook the national first automotive lithium-ion battery 863 project 'Energy-saving and New-energy Vehicles'. In 2009 it fully developed the new-energy vehicle market, cooperating with well-known domestic and international automakers such as BAIC, Brilliance, British double-decker buses and Chery. In 2013 its subsidiary Dalian CBAK Power Battery Co., Ltd. was established to build a 26-series battery R&D and production base. In 2018 it cooperated with the world-leading energy storage system manufacturer Germany's Viessmann, becoming its sole domestic battery supplier. In 2020 its subsidiary Nanjing CBAK New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was established with registered capital of RMB 700 million, and the Nanjing production base began construction with planned capacity expected to reach 20GWh. In 2021 the 32140 large cylindrical full-tab lithium battery achieved mass production, and it invested in and acquired Haichuang Technology to enter the cathode material and precursor business. In 2022 large cylindrical full-tab batteries were introduced into energy storage and electric motorcycle projects. In 2023 the CBAK Shangqiu production base was established, the 26-series battery was expanded, cooperation was reached with portable power leaders such as Huabao, and the first-generation large cylindrical full-tab sodium-ion battery achieved industry-scale mass production. In 2024 it reached a strategic cooperation with Anker and ranked in China's top 5 for 32140 large cylindrical cell shipments with a 19% market share. In 2025 the Dalian production base's 40135 large cylindrical full-tab lithium battery achieved mass production, Nanjing Phase II expanded 32140 battery capacity by 3GWh, a Malaysian factory was planned, and it entered India's two- and three-wheeler and battery-swap markets with top-10 customers accounting for over 50%.
