Overview

Domov důchodců Proseč u Pošné (Retirement Home Proseč u Pošné) is a contributory organization established by the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It operates from the historic chateau (zámek) in the village of Proseč, part of the municipality of Pošná in the Pelhřimov District. The chateau itself is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, and the retirement home has occupied the building since a complete reconstruction following a fire in 1991. The facility provides registered social services across three distinct programs. The first is a home with a special regime (Domov se zvláštním režimem) with a capacity of 39 clients, serving both men and women. The second is a home for persons with disabilities (Domov pro osoby se zdravotním postižením) with a capacity of 36 clients. The third is a specialized unit within the special-regime home dedicated to persons with Huntington's disease, with a capacity of 13 clients. This Huntington's disease unit is a notable specialization, as few facilities in the Czech Republic offer dedicated care for this rare neurodegenerative condition. The organization's stated vision is to provide professional services for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as persons with other disabilities, while respecting their individual needs, principles of openness, equal access, and cooperation with their closest environment. The home actively engages with the community through events such as open days during Social Services Week and educational talks, such as a visit from a professional firefighter. It also recruits staff for positions including social services worker and nurse. As a contributory organization of the Vysočina Region, the home is publicly funded and not a commercial enterprise in the traditional sense, but it operates as a distinct organizational brand with its own identity, website, and service portfolio. Its dual identity—as both a social care provider and the custodian of a protected cultural monument—makes it a unique institution in the Czech social services landscape.

History

The history of the institution is intertwined with the history of the chateau in Proseč u Pošné. The village of Proseč is first mentioned in 1362, when a certain Lev of Proseč wrote after it. It is not known whether a fortress (tvrz) preceding the chateau already stood there at that time. Subsequent mentions include Vilém, Drslav, and Jan Hazmuka of Proseč. By 1415, when Bohunek of Proseč is mentioned, the fortress certainly existed. During the Hussite Wars, however, it apparently fell into disrepair. In 1457 Bohunek died, and although he bequeathed Proseč to Anežka of Dubá, it fell to King Ladislaus the Posthumous. From him it was acquired by Jan of Házmburk and on Kost, who in 1463 transferred it to Petr Malovec of Malovice, and subsequently Proseč was attached to the Kamenice estate. His son Václav Malovec had the fortress restored. The estate remained in the possession of the Malovec family until 1759, when Count Adolf Felix Pötting bought it from Jan Vít Malovec. The contract mentions a chateau, so a Baroque reconstruction had apparently taken place sometime before. In 1803 František Vernier bought the chateau, and subsequently there was a rapid succession of owners. A description of the chateau survives from a court appraisal of 1818: it was a two-story building with a pair of corner rondels and a sala terrena in the left wing. From 1861 to 1945 it was owned by the Třebíč family. After a fire, it underwent a complete reconstruction in 1991, and a retirement home was established in it. The retirement home itself, as a contributory organization of the Vysočina Region, operates the chateau as a social care facility. The building is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The home provides three registered services: a special-regime home for 39 clients, a home for persons with disabilities for 36 clients, and a specialized department for persons with Huntington's disease for 13 clients. The institution's vision focuses on professional care for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as other disabilities, with respect for individual needs, openness, equal access, and cooperation with the clients' closest environment.
