Overview

Cash TV was a French television channel dedicated to interactive casino-style games. It launched in December 2004 on the Canalsat satellite platform, where it occupied channel 246. The channel allowed viewers to play games such as virtual poker, roulette, dice and slot machines directly by telephone, without prior registration. In May 2006 the offering expanded to include live programmes on Canalsat channel 58 and on ADSL television packages from Free (channel 196) and Numericable. The channel's presentation concept was compared to Bloomberg TV, with a third of the screen used for the programme and the rest for games and information, although this layout was only used for slot-machine games; other games alternated between play phases and animated explanations. Cash TV ceased broadcasting permanently on 19 March 2014, a decision attributed to French consumer law, though players' accounts remained accessible until September 2014. Its slogan throughout its existence was "La chaîne du JEU" ("The game channel").

History

Cash TV was born in December 2004 on Canalsat, where it broadcast interactive casino-style games on channel 246. In May 2006 the content was expanded: in addition to the interactive channel, live programmes were offered on Canalsat channel 58 and on ADSL television packages from Free (channel 196) and Numericable. The channel's concept was likened to Bloomberg TV, with a third of the screen for the programme and the rest for games and information, but this layout was only operational for slot-machine games; other games alternated between play phases and animation (rule explanations, prize reminders, etc.). Cash TV broadcast only interactive casino-style games. Presenter segments from 1:30 to 23:35 were pre-recorded, while the game phases were live. Viewers could play without prior registration by calling directly by telephone. On their first participation, players automatically received a starting capital of tokens which they could grow and then exchange for gifts or money (1 token = €0.50). There was no pre-selection as in Call-TV (télé-tirelire) shows; all callers were sure to play. To collect winnings, players had to register and be of legal age (if they wanted to win money only; otherwise games were allowed for minors, but they could only win money with parental consent). The channel permanently ceased broadcasting on 19 March 2014 because of the French consumer law, though accounts remained accessible to players until September 2014. Its slogan from December 2004 to 19 March 2014 was "La chaîne du JEU". Presenters included Évelyne Leclercq, Karine Lima, Yvan Ratiarivelo (C Sport), Jacques Pary (Tournez, Gagnez !), Virginie Daviaud (Virtual Poker + Bande Promo), Cindy Fabre (Cash Diamonds + Pharaons + Las Vegas), Tiffanie Jamesse (Virtual Blackjack), Marie Inbona (La Boule) and Lise Kerverdo (Maxi Roulette).
