Overview

Casa-Dea Estates Winery is an estate winery located on Greer Road in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, just off the historic Loyalist Parkway (Highway 33), about 9 km west of Wellington. Founded in 2000, it describes itself as one of the largest and most established wineries in Prince Edward County, with more than 65 acres of planted vines. It is one of the relatively few wineries in the region capable of producing true Prince Edward County VQA wines. The winery was founded by Domenic Di Pietrantonio, who grew up in the small village of Lettomanoppello in the Abruzzi region of Italy. As a young man he studied with monks and, upon entering the priesthood, was assigned to the monastery's wine cellar — an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for winemaking. After immigrating to Canada in the 1950s, he found success in the manufacturing industry, but his desire to make wine remained unfulfilled; that passion ultimately led to the creation of Casa-Dea Estates Winery. Casa-Dea operates as a destination winery with a range of visitor offerings. Its on-site restaurant serves Italian-inspired dishes, and there is a licensed patio where guests can enjoy wine by the glass. The estate also includes a guest house, an event venue used for weddings and private events, and a wine club. The winery offers tours and tastings, and maintains a VIP list for exclusive offers and event invitations. Its wine portfolio includes a core range of crisp, clean, refreshing wines positioned for everyday occasions such as dinner parties and barbecues, as well as a Reserve tier offering more richness and depth, intended for special gatherings or meals. As a Prince Edward County producer, Casa-Dea participates in the region's wine tourism circuit; it was the first winery on Greer Road and shares the area with Norman Hardie Vineyard & Winery and Rosehall Run Vineyards, a cluster sometimes referred to as 'The Three on Greer.'

History

Casa-Dea Estates Winery was founded in 2000 in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, and has grown with pride since then. It is located on Greer Road, just off the historic Loyalist Parkway (Highway 33), about 9 km west of Wellington. It was the first winery established on Greer Road; today it shares the destination with Norman Hardie Vineyard & Winery and Rosehall Run Vineyards, a grouping sometimes referred to as 'The Three on Greer.' Because it sits among the first cluster of wineries encountered when arriving in 'The County' from Toronto, it positions itself as a natural starting point for a wine tour. The winery's origins trace to founder Domenic Di Pietrantonio, who grew up in the small village of Lettomanoppello in the Abruzzi region of Italy. At an early age he left home to study with monks, and as he entered the priesthood he was assigned to the wine cellar room at the monastery. That experience stayed with him and he fell in love with the art of winemaking. After immigrating to Canada in the 1950s, Domenic found great success in the manufacturing industry, but his passion to make great wine remained unfulfilled. That underlying passion is described by the winery as the reason Casa-Dea Estates Winery exists today. Over the years the estate has developed more than 65 acres of planted vines, making it one of the largest and most established wineries in Prince Edward County and one of the very few capable of producing true Prince Edward County VQA wines. Beyond grape growing and winemaking, Casa-Dea has built out a destination experience: a restaurant serving Italian-inspired dishes, a licensed patio, a guest house, an event venue for weddings and private events, a wine club, and tours and tastings. Its mission is to produce premium estate wines from the heart of Prince Edward County. In 2020 the winery communicated with customers and staff about the COVID-19 pandemic, publishing a staff questionnaire in February and a customer notice in March stating that it was working as best it could to continue operations.
