CARO Autovermietung

CARO Autovermietung GmbH was a German vehicle rental company headquartered in Bremen. Founded in July 1998 by Stefan Peters, who led the company as managing director, CARO grew from a regional rental business into a nationwide provider of passenger cars, transporters, trucks and special-purpose vehicles to corporate, commercial and private customers. The company was privately held for most of its history and built its network through acquisitions and new station openings, including the takeovers of Pott GmbH Autovermietung (Hagen) and AKW Rent a Car (Fischbachtal) around 1 October 2001. A central service center, the CARO Service Center (CSC), opened on 9 July 2003 to handle reservations and fleet disposition. By 1 May 2004, with the opening of a Berlin location, CARO operated its tenth rental station. The company later expanded into tourism (2010), entered a cooperation with onewaygo GmbH (2012), outsourced vehicle steering and key/document management to DAD (February 2012), and added off-airport stations in Munich/Freising and Frankfurt/Kelsterbach in early 2014. From 2014, Tesla vehicles were integrated into its fleet in selected German cities. In May 2017, CARO was acquired by Enterprise Autovermietung Deutschland B.V. & Co. KG, part of Enterprise Holdings. At its height, CARO maintained a network of approximately 50 full-service stations plus additional delivery stations across Germany.

CARO Autovermietung GmbH was founded in July 1998 by Stefan Peters, who served as its managing director from the beginning. The company was headquartered in Bremen and operated as a privately held vehicle rental business. Its early growth was driven by acquisitions and the expansion of a station network. On 1 October 2001, CARO took over Pott GmbH Autovermietung in Hagen and AKW Rent a Car in Fischbachtal, simultaneously opening additional rental stations, which marked the beginning of a nationwide German station network. At the beginning of 2012, a close cooperation with onewaygo GmbH began. Since February 2012, CARO outsourced all processes related to vehicle check-in and check-out as well as document and key management to the service provider DAD. Christine Meyer became an additional managing director on 1 January 2013. In early 2014, CARO opened off-airport stations in Munich/Freising and Frankfurt/Kelsterbach. Since the beginning of 2014, vehicles from US manufacturer Tesla were integrated into CARO's fleet and offered in several major German cities. In May 2017, CARO was acquired by Enterprise Autovermietung Deutschland B.V. & Co. KG. At its peak, CARO maintained a network of approximately 50 full-service stations plus various delivery stations distributed throughout Germany.
